Stels ATV 800D. Sports multitasking

The Stels ATV 800D ATV is a new product for the fall of 2011, a full-fledged utilitarian ATV equipped with a 780 cc engine. One of the most powerful Stealth utility ATV models, the 800D is quite unique to the company. The Stels ATV 800D ATV is significantly different from its counterparts in appearance and looks much more futuristic and progressive than all previous models. The design of the Stels ATV 800D ATV contains notes of sportiness, which clearly hints that this machine is capable of much. Externally, the Stels 800D is somewhat reminiscent of the trendsetter BRP Renegade, and is close to it in terms of technical indicators, only it costs significantly less. The Stels ATV 800 Dinli ATV is adapted to Russian realities and undergoes constant modernization so that our compatriots can use the full potential of the ATV. Stels 800D is equipped with a single-cylinder engine with a displacement of 780 cubic meters and a power of 43.5 horsepower. Stealth 800 is all-wheel drive with the ability to lock the front axle. In terms of its performance, it is a logical development of the seven hundred stealth family, surpassing them in almost everything. The stealth 800d ATV is equipped with a variator with low and high gears, reverse gear, park and neutral modes. In the stock configuration, the stels 800d is equipped with maxxis bighorn mud tires on alloy wheels. Among other things, as standard, the Stels ATV 800 D ATV boasts underbody protection, a winch, a towbar, and a backrest for the passenger.

Yes, it seems that it is precisely for this reason that the Stels company organized a test of the ATVs already familiar to us, not on the cross-country track familiar to journalists, but in conditions as close as possible to combat conditions - on a truly winter (the temperature stayed below -20 ° C) hunting in Bryansk black forest. And the stealth “utilitarians” in this event were to act as workhorses, delivering hunters and equipment through the forest, and back all the same plus (at least in theory) prey.

At the gathering place, three models of quads were waiting for us: the long-wheelbase ATV 700D, the rollover ATV 800D and the side-by-side UTV 800H. I decided to start with the 700D, soberly reasoning that the long wheelbase and slower-revving engine would be a significant help when driving on slippery roads and overcoming powdery snow (looking ahead, I’ll say that it turned out to be so). In addition, this machine was equipped with two trunks, which immediately eliminated the issue of transporting not only a backpack and a camera, but also a supply of provisions just in case.

The column of “quads”, moving towards the forest, cheerfully flew along the rolled paths and paths, occasionally pleasing themselves and frightening those around them with skidding on turns. But as soon as we went deeper into the forest, the speed of movement dropped sharply: we were no longer up to demonstrating our brave prowess, our strength was spent on overcoming the snowy impassability.

This is where the 700D showed itself in all its glory. Where the drivers of the short-wheelbase 800s did their best, the 700 simply carried them. But the most difficult thing was for those sitting behind the wheel of the UTV - the track made by the “quads” turned out to be too big, so they actually had to drive on virgin soil. True, the only external manifestation of this was a slightly lower speed of movement.

At the site of the first stop, the organizers conducted a course for young fighters in handling smooth-bore weapons. But it was not possible to hold the attention of the “hunters” for long, even with the help of weapons: after shooting, the most active of them mounted the “quads” and rushed to the neighboring field. A huge area, knee-deep snow - what else is needed for a full test of the “scrap”?

And then the same 700D flashed again. Requiring less effort from the driver than the 800D, it could both sail through virgin snow and vigorously cut trajectories. The UTV 800H practically kept up with it. The action plan is simple: fasten your seat belt, grab the steering wheel tightly and press the gas pedal to the floor. The main thing in this case is not to forget to seat a passenger: without such an important ballast, dynamic right turns can be achieved on two wheels. Or even end up neatly laying the UTV on its side.

Let's ride. Frozen. It's time to go to base. The way back was surprisingly easy, apparently, the prospect of tasting freshly cooked hot soup in a warm hut attracted all participants with equal force. And already there, in the warmth, some thoughts about using the “quad” as a winter off-road vehicle finally took shape in my head.

Firstly, this is not a snowmobile, and you shouldn’t demand from it the same cross-country ability and dynamics in half a meter of powder snow. Yes, he will pass, but he will have to work. You can significantly simplify the task by purchasing a set of tracks. This, again, will not make a “snowball” out of a “quad”, but it will significantly increase both cross-country ability and speed. Moreover, in terms of budget, such a modification is incomparable to buying a snowmobile.

Secondly, driving a quad in winter has certain nuances. Thus, wonderful off-road tires, which can cope with deep sand and muddy clay without any problems, become very hard and slippery at very low temperatures, requiring precise operation of the throttle trigger.

Thirdly, winter means not only slippery surfaces, but also simply low temperatures. And here you immediately feel the lack of “mugs” on both the 700D and 800D for hand protection and heating of the handles and trigger. In principle, such a feature will not hurt in spring and autumn, and even in summer it can be oh-so-cool in the mornings.

And one more important point is equipment for winter trips. I had the opportunity to see from my own experience that neither a snowcross jacket nor motocross boots are the best option for long crawls in the forest. Still, a classic “fisherman’s kit” from a special equipment store will be much more appropriate and comfortable in these conditions.

Review of the STELS ATV 800GT MAX EFI ATV

The 800GT max EFI two-seater ATV is one of the most powerful machines of the Velomotors holding. An engine with a volume of 750 cubic centimeters, producing a power of 46.2 horsepower, ground clearance of at least 260 mm, independent front and rear suspension with spring-hydraulic shock absorbers and a stroke of 170 and 225 mm, respectively - every detail of this all-terrain vehicle is designed to provide absolute cross-country ability, all-weather capability and high-level reliability, and at the same time, as far as possible, comfortable conditions during the trip. If you can’t imagine life without plowing forest roads, mountain trails and abandoned beaches, the STELS ATV 800GT max EFI all-terrain vehicle is designed specifically for you.

The liquid-cooled injection four-stroke engine with a maximum torque of 56 Nm will not let you down in any weather and on any, even the steepest incline. The steel tubular frame, alloy wheels and wheelbase of 1489 mm inspire additional confidence in your iron friend. Such characteristics provide sufficient stability and safety margin. The overall dimensions of the ATV are 2365x1230x1226 mm, seat height 880 mm. Weight when fully equipped - 360 kg. Front tires AT26x8-12” and rear tires 10-12 inches will allow you to quickly and without loss drive both on a dirt road and across a field or sand.

STELS ATV 800GT max EFI includes time-tested technical solutions for ATVs. A V-belt variator with a continuously variable gear ratio and 2WD/4WD/4WD Lock operating mode will allow for smoother acceleration and braking than even in a passenger car with an automatic transmission. The engine is started using both an electric starter and a manual starter, which increases the likelihood of successful starting in the event of a breakdown far from the city. High engine efficiency is ensured by a contactless electronically controlled ignition system.

In general, the characteristics of the STELS ATV 800GT max EFI all-terrain vehicle are the same as its predecessor STELS ATV 800GT max. The main difference is the fuel delivery system: the 800GT max EFI uses a fuel injection system rather than a carburetor system. The abbreviation EFI refers to electronic control based on microcontrollers. This reduces fuel consumption, simplifies engine starting and accelerates acceleration.

The kit includes a passenger seat, a durable winch and reliable tires on steel rims. In short, everything you need for long trips across wild off-road terrain. For this fuel-injected touring ATV, the road surface doesn't matter at all.

Despite the obvious “fun” dominance, the utilitarian component of the Stels ATV 800D is at a high level thanks, in particular, to a long, almost double seat and luggage racks with a decent carrying capacity.

A side-by-side all-terrain vehicle is a reasonable compromise for those hunters who believe that “there is not a car between your legs,” but are already tired of wandering waist-deep in snow with a shovel, winch cable and sand trucks for their SUV.

Hunting is not only a process, but also a result.
And despite protests from animal rights activists, it's worth it. Hunting is not only a process, but also a result. And despite protests from animal rights activists, it's worth it.

The new Stels ATV 800D ATV is a sporty continuation of the popular utilitarian 700D model. This is a joint production of the domestic Velomotors and the Taiwanese Dinli. The 800 has a carburetor single-cylinder engine with a capacity of 750 cc. cm and power 43.5 hp. There were complaints about the previous models regarding the lubrication system, but this time the developers have eliminated the shortcomings, and the engine and transmission have become more resistant to high loads. I was able to check this personally: during the test, a colleague decided to cross a ford on a quad, but fell into a hole and “drowned.” Of course, I drank water up to the valves, but, thank God, it didn’t come to a water hammer. After draining the water, the device was able to start and even continue the test, although, to be honest, it stubbornly stalled at idle, which is generally not surprising after a long winter swim. They say that they worked on the appearance of the 800 for about two years. Her muzzle turned out to be really sporty with evil spider “eyes”. The utilitarian purpose is expressed by luggage platforms (the load capacity of the rear ones is 90 kg). In general, the appearance is memorable, but it’s worth working on the execution: the quality of the plastic body is reminiscent of cheap children’s prefabricated toys, the parts of which must be torn off from the general frame, after which pieces of soldering remain on them. Everything necessary for comfort is present: a comfortable saddle, soft handlebars, two 12 W sockets, even a backrest for the passenger, although the quad is positioned as a single one. However, if there is a passenger, it is not recommended to load the rear trunk. On the steering wheel there is a new protection against accidental switching of the 2WD-4WD-4WD transmission modes with a front differential lock, and the desire to lock the differential must be confirmed by pressing a separate red button. Alloy wheels, Maxxis BigHorn tires (25 or 26 inches) with a mud tread pattern and a winch with a remote control (very useful when pulling the quad from the river!) are included as standard. On a road that had been rolled into ice by previous testers, the ATV held on almost as if glued to it. Just don’t rely on the apparent stability of a four-wheeler - it’s not at all difficult to roll over on it, so the power must be clearly controlled. Thanks to its compact size, good tires and suspension, the Stels ATV 800D easily copes with all obstacles. But to drive with a passenger, the suspension must be adjusted more rigidly. The engine power is enough to both pass an obstacle course at a speed of about 60 km/h and to drive quickly on a relatively flat surface. It’s nice that during the test we didn’t have to fight with the “fighting” steering wheel: the feedback on it was just enough to feel the wheels and the track, but not dislocate your arms. In general, the Stels ATV 800D, despite minor shortcomings, left a pleasant impression and is recommended for daily use. Specifications
