Looking at the Prowler XTX 700 all-terrain vehicle, we immediately note the automotive paint of the cabin, which gives a gloss to the simple machine, a durable tubular frame, and a trunk, which is a plastic box with a hinged tailgate. There is also nothing superfluous in the cabin itself. There are two seats, of the simplest design and shape, with headrests and three-point seat belts. Quite spacious and even tall riders can sit comfortably.
The instrument panel looks uncomplicated and is equipped with a digital display that displays speed, distance traveled, engine hours, oil and fuel level gauges, and more. Two keys are responsible for operating the headlights and switching the drive, and the front wheel locking is activated by a small button located on the key, for this It is enough to move it a couple of millimeters. You can engage all-wheel drive and lock the wheels while driving, simply by slowing down.
The convenient gear shift lever of the CVT transmission can be easily moved into several positions: up, down, reverse and park. The handbrake lever is located nearby. The steering column with a very comfortable steering wheel and nine adjustment positions deserves special attention. In addition, the cabin has a small glove compartment for small items, side restraints and rear-view mirrors. The issue of luggage placement is resolved simply and effectively; there is a plastic luggage compartment under the hood.
To prevent moisture from getting into it, it is sealed around the entire perimeter and made airtight. Here you can place supplies and everything you need for a trip, and in the rear trunk with a carrying capacity of 272 kg you can transport hunting trophies, catch or just a supply of firewood.
The power unit on this practical truck is a four-stroke 700 cc engine with fuel injection. It is liquid cooled with ventilation and protected from overheating. Despite its low power, it copes well with steep climbs and wetlands. It is very convenient to operate the device thanks to the power steering system, which makes driving extremely easy.
The somewhat stiff double wishbone suspensions have a travel height of 25 cm, which is quite suitable for overcoming deep mud, potholes and bumps. With them, driving in a straight line and around corners is very comfortable and devoid of unexpected unpleasant surprises. 26-inch Duro 3 Star Kaden tires, three-ply with high lugs, provide excellent grip on any road and smooth movement over bumps. Even jumping from low springboards turns out very well.

It’s also written on the fence. Therefore, let’s forget about advertising bravado and try out the “Arctic cat” with our own hands. Comfort and ergonomics : The ATV passes this standard “excellent”. Two well-fed guys fit on it with ease, without straining each other at all. Although, what kind of tension can we talk about when we consider a tourist double? During the test, I sometimes even forgot that there was another person sitting behind me, and he, in turn, sat imposingly in the passenger seat, clutching the armrests. The seats are soft and do not strain the buttocks. The controls are essentially standard; no special innovations have been noticed. The same good old gas trigger on the right handle, as well as the drive control selector. The left side houses the brake handle, light optics control, engine start button, as well as Arctic Cat’s signature Override button - used to disable the speed limit system while reversing. To be honest, I still don’t understand – why is it needed? You can just handle the gas carefully... I dare to suggest that this function is useful at the moment when you need to get out of an off-road trap, using traction without the risk of the wheels slipping. I won’t write about the tidy - nothing special. A small sealed glove compartment is located in the false tank. You can put keys, documents, a mobile phone or other small items in it. This glove compartment, or rather its lock, became the first annoying link. I couldn’t open it without effort (perhaps this is due to new technology, and the system will be developed in the future). The second “irritating” factor turned out to be the passenger armrests: so comfortable during rides, at the time of refueling from a can they were the crown of idiocy. Getting to the filler hole with a regular funnel turned out to be a very difficult task: not to mention the fact that without it you shouldn’t go there at all. In general, if you don’t have a canister with a flexible nozzle, then you won’t be able to refuel cleanly and accurately without splashing gasoline all over the place. Engine, brakes, suspension : I didn’t expect any “revelations” from the first one. Reacting slightly slower to the gas and pleasantly farting from the exhaust pipe, the engine demonstrates good tractor traction. Quickly, by utilitarian standards, it picks up speed. This is exactly what should be on the tourist square. Because its owner will go to dirty the beautiful “casting” on wheels in remote swamps and impassable mud (so beloved by off-roaders) only in a fit of delirium tremens. Of course, de facto, the “cat” will not save even in the face of such obstacles - sometimes on its own, and sometimes with the help of a lowering device, blocking, or a winch, but it will still cope with the obstacle that arises... However, it is too beautiful to climb there. It seems to me that it is more intended for educational pleasure voyages with the purpose of aesthetic contemplation of the beauties of the earth, but for hard shit mixing there are other models. Brakes. Initially, they scared me wildly with their virtual absence. Later I came to the conclusion that, in principle, the brakes are quite normal. It’s just that I’m “slightly” spoiled by the prepared brakes of stunt bikes. Well, quads shouldn’t brake at lightning speed from speed, like a sportbike?! Suspension. Have you ever driven a Lada Kalina?
For some reason, it was with this miracle of AvtoTAZ that I formed associations while driving a 700 at a speed of over 60. And this is not a compliment! To please the Great God of Comfort, the manufacturer made the suspension too soft - and therefore the quadric noticeably “floats” on the road and sways during maneuvers, adding to the feeling of uncertainty for the pilot in his control over the road. For this reason, on potholes, bumps and other off-road “joys”, this feature turns into a big plus. And this, you agree, is a more important quality for such equipment. Unfortunately, it was not allowed to fully test the off-road qualities of the “cat” and therefore we made do with the nearby virgin snow. Where it became almost immediately clear - there is nothing to do here with stock tires. And this despite the fact that we wisely did not climb into deep snow. But even where we decided to look, the quad successfully got stuck on its belly several times. In general, do you want winter rides through the forest and fields? Buy the appropriate tires, or better yet, “caterpillars”! Fortunately, this “kit” can easily be purchased from a dealer. After the test, I thought for a long time: who is the potential buyer of such a device? I doubt that it is attractive to professional off-road enthusiasts. Why overpay for beauty (letters GT), which will still not be visible due to dirt? For almost the same reason, all sorts of hunting/fishing enthusiasts disappear... ... But for weekend outings with his wife/lover/girlfriend/friend/lover (underline as appropriate), it is simply ideal. Just ride and have fun. From convenience and comfort. The opportunity to drive slowly and enjoy the contemplation of natural beauty. From minor hooliganism... If I had the opportunity to conduct a longer/detailed test, I would take a deeper look at all the advantages and disadvantages of this ATV. Well, I guess that’s all I can say...

Advantages of diesel ATVs
Compared to their gasoline counterparts, diesel engines consume less fuel, which is their incomparable advantage. There is no need for an ignition system, which eliminates various components - sensors, spark plugs, wires and connectors.
A weak system is sufficient to cool a diesel engine. Fuel injection is carried out by a system of the simplest design in comparison with injectors installed on gasoline engines.
Additional advantages include a forced engine, a simple transmission design and the ability to install differentials on all four wheels.
Despite the fact that gasoline engines are characterized by a higher speed, diesel engines have more torque. This parameter is most important for equipment most often used in off-road conditions.

We've ridden a lot of Arctic Cat ATVs over the years to find that they provide drivers with a comfortable, enjoyable ride, but can sometimes make them sweat. However, the new 700 s, along with the 500 s, give the driver a new experience from the second he turns on the engine. These models not only have proven suspension, ground clearance and reliability, for which we love the cars of this company, but also an electronic power steering system that allows you to control the ATV much better and enjoy riding it.
Improved steering will reduce driver fatigue and give the driver greater control, allowing him to focus on the ride rather than the side issues that arise along the way. We really like this new system and wish the engineers would add it to the Thundercat 1000 and Mud Pro all-terrain vehicles . All that said, we'd really like to compare the 700 S or LTD with other 700s in the same class equipped with electronically controlled power steering to make sure they're good quality. Only in this case will we be able to name a real winner among ATVs.

Being one of the American ATVs, Arctic Cat is equipped with a 686 cc Lamborghini diesel engine. Unlike its gasoline counterparts, the diesel engine is capable of running on six types of diesel fuel and biofuel, which greatly simplifies refueling.
Equipment equipped with diesel engines is characterized by slight vibration during operation. The Arctic Cat 700 Super Duty Diesel diesel ATV could not avoid this either: vibration is present, but is easily eliminated by increasing the speed. The acceleration dynamics of the 400-kilogram Arctic Cat are not the best: to get a quick start from a standstill, you have to turn the gas almost all the way.
