Model Yamaha YZ250X
appeared in 2021 on the basis of the Yamaha YZ250 2-stroke motocross model. Yamaha positioned this version in the Cross Country class - it is in this group that it allocated off-road motorcycles of the hard enduro type.
Unlike the cross-country model, the Yamaha YZ250X received new engine settings, suspensions, an 18′ rear wheel, changed gearbox ratios, an aluminum side stand, a reinforced clutch and a fuel tap with three positions (on, off, reserve).
In 2021, the Yamaha YZ250X model undergoes changes, the main of which are: the diameter of the front brake disc has been increased from 250 to 270 mm, the size of the front wheel has also been changed: 80/100-21 → 90/90-21.
In subsequent years, changes to the model concerned mainly the appearance - coloring, sticker design and plastic shape. The model is currently only available in the Australian and North American markets.
Design of Yamaha YZ 250 F
Minimal body kit, updated carburetor and engine - this is what the YZ 250 F looks like.
The Yamaha YZ 250 F is a very worthy representative of the modern family of cross-country motorcycles.
To increase permissible speeds, everything is assembled on a wrapped aluminum frame with a minimum number of welding points. The latter also affected the rigidity of the structure. But also for strength, an additional double-sided beam is used.
Suspension
- Front suspension made on the basis of an inverted fork with a working stroke of 310 mm.
Yamaha still puts its proven coil spring fork up front, bucking the air suspension trend in motocross.
- The rear axle is supported by a pendulum monoshock absorber. Compared to the front, the stroke is increased - 315 mm.
The rear features a fully adjustable KYB shock absorber.
An interesting feature of the motorcycle is the ability to adjust the suspension both front and rear , allowing you to adjust the clearances for a specific track as accurately and comfortably as possible. What is rare for motocross - in this model, an important role is given to softening bumps and uneven road surfaces. The KYB system, already familiar from previous models, has been reworked and further optimized.
Peculiarities
The Yamaha YZ 250 F is designed according to the “nothing superfluous” principle.
- Another feature that distinguishes the sneaker from its peers is the ability to adjust the height of the handlebars for a specific athlete.
- The seat has also been redesigned, it has become more ergonomic, and new materials used in manufacturing significantly reduce the accumulation of dirt, allowing a person to move freely while moving.
The seat “fits” onto the gas tank recessed underneath it, allowing the driver to move forward as much as possible when cornering.

This is achieved with a minimum body kit, and the company’s design department did a good job on the one that remained. Every detail in the exterior design is made to improve racing performance, making the model easily recognizable among its competitors and consistently showing impressive results in competitions.
- An interesting solution was the complete absence of both front and rear wings . Traditionally for Yamaha, the role of the rear is played by the rear body kit on which the saddle is attached. In front, the continuation of the frame, curved to the required radius, protects from dirt from under the wheels.
- Naturally, any features such as optics characteristic of other types. But space for the headlight is nevertheless left. The quadrant compartment is closed with a plate, often with the rider's number on the front.
- The engine is tilted forward . This design made it possible to lower the center of gravity, which had a positive effect on handling, and increased the cornering speed by 15%.
Power point
Unlike its colleague, the YZ250 with a 2-stroke engine, the new motorcycle was equipped with a 4-stroke engine from the very beginning of production.
The motor has enough power, especially considering the light weight of the motorcycle. At the same time, the engine is equally nimble throughout the entire rev range.
The valve block was modernized in 2014, at the same time the carburetor transferred its role to electronics, and the CDI ignition was changed to transistor.
- working volume - 248 cm3;
- power - 41 hp;
- maximum torque - 28.0 Nm;
- number of valves - 4 (until 2014 - 5);
- cooling - liquid;
- fuel supply - injector;
- ignition - electronic;
- start - kick starter (some versions have electric starter);
- Tank capacity - 7 l.
In 2021, to reduce weight and increase speed, a number of engine parts were replaced, as well as a complete reconfiguration of parameters , which gave an increase in power at medium and high speeds.
Transmission and clutch
The transmission works great, allowing the engine to realize its full potential.
- The motorcycle has a 5-speed manual transmission , built according to the usual sequential principle.
- The drive is carried out via a chain . Users note clear shifting and a fairly short pedal travel.
- Clutch standard on Yamaha bikes - multi-disc, oil bath.
The clutch basket has nine discs.
Brakes
The motorcycle received disc hydraulics, but to reduce weight the number of supports and discs was reduced.
Front brakes
Wave disc front brakes.
- number of disks - 1;
- diameter - 245 (from 2021 - 270) mm;
- support - 2.
Rear brakes
- number of disks - 1;
- diameter - 245 mm;
- support - 1.

Driving performance
The driving performance of this cross-country monster is still relevant today, although it has been gone for almost twenty years since the model was introduced.
Per 100 km, the Yamaha YZ 250 F consumes from 5.5 to 6 liters of fuel . The difference depends on the wear of the chassis and the quality of gasoline.
Fuel consumption
In an effort to improve the model, the developers first increased the tank to 7.5 liters, which allowed it to travel more than 100 km, then reduced it to a minimum.
Users note that the volume to the neck is just over 6 liters .
Speed
The maximum speed of the model is only 165 km/h. Here I would like to dwell in more detail, most of the data speaks about exactly this parameter, but our friends were able to squeeze out of it no more than 130 km/h at stock settings.
But good suspension, increased fork travel, as well as the minimum weight of the model enable the motorcyclist to overcome the most difficult sections and (if desired) fly part of the way in a jump, which allows increasing performance.
A lightweight and nimble bike that is equally stable on the ground or when performing tricks, adding to the confidence of the rider.
Qualitative indicators of technology
When considering the Yamaha YZ 250, it is worth paying great attention to its technical characteristics:
Parameters (length; width; height) | 216.3; 82.5; 130.6 cm |
Curb weight | 103 kg |
Maximum speed | 160 km/h |
Fuel tank volume | 6.4 l. |
Engine | 2-stroke 1-cylinder liquid-cooled |
Fuel consumption | 5 l/100 km |
Engine capacity | 249.9 cu. cm |
Start | Kickstarter |
Piston parameters (stroke; diameter) | 5.36; 7.7 cm |
Engine power | 51 l. With. at 8000 rpm |
Brake system | Disc hydraulic |
Suspensions (front; rear) | Inverted telescopic fork; pendulum with monoshock absorber |
Fans of powerful two-stroke 250 cc engines will definitely appreciate this model. Light weight, relatively compact dimensions and comfortable fit made moving on a motorcycle comfortable. The only negative is the small volume of the fuel tank (early models have 6.4 liters, and last year’s - 7.5) with significant gasoline consumption. Disc brakes and a reliable suspension provide adequate comfort even during extreme driving.
Dimensions and weight
If we talk about weight, then the motorcycle filled with all the necessary ingredients (1 liter of oil + 6 liters of fuel) is only 106 kg. Net weight less than 100 kg.
A tenacious and powerful “crossover”, which has collected many positive qualities from its predecessors.
The model is designed taking into account athletes of tall and medium height. Short stature may cause some difficulty in placing your feet on the ground.
- Length - 2162 mm.
- Width - 828 mm.
- Height - 1307 (total), 900 (at the saddle) mm.
- Base - 1469 mm.
- Ground clearance - 375 mm.
Modifications
In parallel with this model, the design department was developing a more cubic model (first yz400f, then yz450f), so no modifications were envisaged for the crossover.
Since 2015, the motorcycle has been equipped with a lighter throttle lever, which significantly reduces the load on the driver’s hand during long rides.
Flaws
Reviews from people who have had the opportunity to ride this motorcycle do not note any particular shortcomings. Mainly noted:
- weak front brake;
- It behaves unsteadily during sharp turns.
But on the other hand, every second copy from the “motorcycle” category has the same shortcomings.
In a picturesque place.
On the slope.
At the car wash.
In garages.
In the country.
and dignity
The situation with advantages is different. Noted:
- comfortable saddle and fit;
- adjustable suspension and long stroke;
- low weight with relatively large dimensions;
- and, of course, power and good dynamic characteristics .
