Motorcycle Vespa GTS 300 HPE SuperSport 2021 review

Vespa 300 GTS 201

In 2005, Piaggio updated the Vespa scooter lineup to include the GT200 model (piston diameter 72 mm, stroke 48.6 mm, displacement 198 cc, 19.7 hp at 8500 rpm, 9 .6 Nm at 6000 rpm). This model was the result of a significant development in the company's technology, for the first time receiving a new liquid-cooled injection engine with four valves and a single overhead camshaft, as well as 12-inch wheels shod with wide tires, which replaced the 10-inch ones with narrow rubber. The new wheel size also accommodates 220mm brake discs at the front and rear. Quite significant changes compared to previous models, but that’s not all: the steel one-piece monocoque body of the new model, without changing its iconic style, has become much stiffer in torsion.

Vespa scooters

Disadvantages of the model

  1. High price of scooter.
  2. The high cost of replacing components and the difficulty of selecting them.
  3. Limited color options.

It is safe to say that a Vespa is not suitable for every motorcyclist. This is evidenced by both the cost of the moped and its technical characteristics. Italians are accustomed to classifying GTS as sports scooters due to their engine size and acceleration dynamics.

One can argue with this, since in appearance the GTS is far from fast and aggressive driving. This is, first of all, style, grace, harmony in the smallest details and, of course, ride comfort. This is the choice of creative, artistic individuals for whom individuality comes first. The efficiency of the scooter and the high level of comfort allow you to cover long distances.

There is no need to be afraid that this equipment will fail at any moment. It works reliably and predictably. The popularity of the Vespa is due to the fact that it is an opportunity to touch history. Despite the high price, the cost is fully justified by the benefits that the owner of the scooter acquires. Vespa is a successful combination of timeless classics with advanced technical developments.

Vespa GTS 300 scooter

Suddenly, the Vespa began to steer sharper and took on a more responsive character, while simultaneously becoming more stable at high speed and holding its trajectory more neutrally. The new body structure became the cornerstone for a serious increase in engine power, which increased interest in new models, and the answer to this was the GTS 250 model (piston diameter 72 mm, stroke 60 mm, 244 cubic meters, 21.2 hp at 8250 rpm and 20 Nm of torque at 6500 rpm). In 2007, the GTS 250 scooter model evolved into the Vespa GTS 300 (75 mm piston with 63 mm stroke, 278 cc, 21.2 hp at 7750 rpm and 22 Nm at 5000 rpm). As the numbers make clear, the Vespa GTS 300 has more traction at lower revs, which is what it needs for jumping off at traffic lights - a crucial skill for an urban everyday scooter. The Vespa GTS 300 remained unchanged mechanically until 2021, and its versions differed only in body kit and additional equipment: GTS Touring, GTS Super, GTS SuperSport. But at the core they remained the same Vespa GTS 300.

Motorcycle Vespa GTS 300 HPE SuperSport 2021 review

Description of the Vespa GTS 300 HPE SuperSport 2021 motorcycle is in the queue for publication of the article. Announcement: Today, for almost every new motorcycle that comes into being, marketers strive to carve out their own niche. This one is a road sport, this one is a recreational enduro. But what class should we include a motorcycle that has a little bit of everything? A good bike should have a reliable engine, comfortable ergonomics and simple controls...

Vespa GTS 300 HPE SuperSport is a motorcycle not sold in Russia, equipped with a low-power 23.8 hp engine. Despite the fact that good models of motorcycles have a very respectable price, and the season for their use is relatively short, the motorcycle market is developing rapidly. And if you believe the words of dealers, then some models of recently released motorcycles are selling like hot cakes at the beginning of the season, and the models brought to Russia are clearly not enough to fully satisfy consumer demand.

A motorcycle has long ceased to be an alternative to a car, and the times when this equipment was bought only because there was not enough money for a full-fledged car are forgotten. Nowadays, two-wheelers can be called technological marvels in many cases, and their cost can be compared with that of prestigious cars.

Many people have started buying motorcycles for hobby purposes as riding or even collecting them has become a good pastime for many people. Many motorcycles, for example the Vespa GTS 300 HPE SuperSport, whose technical characteristics make it possible to call the model a prestigious brand, are in demand among both beginners and experienced motorcyclists.

Motorcycles with an engine capacity of 278 cc / 18.2 cub in. see, appeared as a result of long work of inventors who sought to create a model that was not inferior in characteristics to other versions of the motorcycle. In some cases, these models are not only not inferior, but also ahead of other motorcycles, as they have minimal fuel consumption and other excellent parameters.

Motorcycles from 250 to 400 kb. see which includes Vespa GTS 300 HPE SuperSport - this is the most common class of motorcycles. In this range you already have a choice among almost all classes of motorcycles. Many people call this category the most suitable for a first motorcycle. You can purchase a moderately heavy, powerful and flexible motorcycle for relatively little money. Many people advise taking a road bike with a 400 cc engine as your first choice. We cannot completely agree with this, because such motorcycles often weigh about 200 kg and have a sufficient power reserve. If your skills in riding a two-wheeled vehicle are limited to a training motorcycle at a motorcycle school, then you should not immediately take such a device. Many beginners get into ridiculous accidents simply because they do not know all the features of operating such equipment. After all, the heavier and more powerful the motorcycle, the better you should know how to handle it in different situations. Even a monkey can just drive in a straight line (no joke).

About two seasons on Vespa. Lots of letters, few photos. It all started in the summer of 2014. It was my fourth season overall and third on the wonderful Harley V-Rod motorcycle. In parallel stood a shabby Honda Pal moped, used occasionally for trips to bars and back home - in those blessed times, the fine for driving 50 cc while drunk was punishable by 500 rubles, and no one was interested in them. Yes, I know, it’s not good to drive drunk :-) But I always wanted a Vespa... I don’t know where my love for this rare motor scooter came from. And I even found a PK 50 automatic for a very reasonable 35 thousand in good condition, original paint and with low mileage, with stickers in German yellowed from time to time, although it would not start, and I even gave a deposit for it. But then a law was passed that recognized the moped as a full-fledged vehicle, with corresponding fines and imprisonment, and riding a moped in bars, and with it the meaning for me of a 50cc cubic capacity, disappeared. But I wanted Vespu... Then autumn 14 arrived with an explosive increase in the exchange rate and prices for everything. Looking at motorcycles that cost half as much as at home, I wanted to buy everything I liked, just as my parents in 1991 used money that turned into candy wrappers to buy everything, even shoes of the wrong size... And on that same Black Tuesday or whatever it was in December , when the euro hit the 100 mark, I couldn’t stand it, I went and picked it up from a decent country house near Odintsovo, which I had been looking at for several weeks - a black, well-maintained GTS300 with about 8000 km on the mileage and its original trunk, at the old price. The previous owner, an employee of the financial sector, was drunk from the day and laughed hysterically. All that remains is to legitimize this purchase for yourself. In addition, in the summer I had a chance to ride the Sym Maxsym for several days, and although the appearance, partly the landing, the blue illumination of the instruments and a lot of plastic caused rejection, I liked the feeling of carefree teleportation in space instead of riding a motorcycle filled with emotions when driving on business, so the idea was brilliant: the V-Rod, of course, is beautiful, but in early spring and late autumn it was a little cold and scary on it, and after 3 seasons I wanted something more scary-Harley. For an air vent, open-end candles, vibrations. So I’ll sell the V-Rod in the spring, and replace it with 2 vehicles: a beautiful but impractical Sportster 883, cut to look like a bobber - without a front fender, with teeth-crushing low shock absorbers, without tidy - for the soul and riding in good weather, and GTS with a large glass and a trunk - to open the season early and close later, to drive in the rain, with a passenger, on business, and so on. In terms of money it turned out to be approximately equivalent. Immediately after the purchase, taking advantage of a recent birthday, I asked a friend for a gift and installed the highest windshield, waited a dreary three months, and here it is - mid-March, the sun is warming, there is snow on the roadsides, but the road surface is without ice - it’s time to open. First impressions-emotions are less than expected. Apparently, I’ve read a lot about funny, evil old two-stroke mechanics, but what I got was a very high-torque, bourgeois, large-volume four-stroke. You just go and that’s it. But it’s convenient! It’s not blowing, you can ride in hefty, warm Swedish army leggings, which I used to replace the desired Tucano Urbano mittens - there’s nothing to switch. Water and all sorts of rubbish from the road are repelled from the front wheel by a rather large flat bottom, the knees are covered with a shield, behind the glass I can hide my rather large carcass - 192 cm and 115 kg. You can ride in a 3/4 helmet without covering your eyes, without a visor or glasses, just with a visor. In general, the idea of opening early was completely justified - riding around the city on a Vespa in near-zero temperatures turned out to be warmer than just standing still in the same clothes. I spun a couple of times before nightfall, frost and snow are no big deal, it’s quite possible to ride slowly, and if it slides, you’re quite capable of kicking it with your feet, this is not a three-hundred-kilogram Harley. The difference from the maxi-scooters of the Asian school is striking - I compare it with the Maxsym 400 and Burgman, which I had a chance to ride. There is a more recumbent-chopper seating position with your feet forward, and it is strictly defined by the platforms under your feet and the step of the seat, which is why, for example, my knees stick out and get wet; a much longer wheelbase, which adds stability on the highway, but sharply spoils maneuverability and handling in the city. The general impression of them is an ersatz touring motorcycle, like I dreamed of a Gold or a BMW GTL 1600, but I didn’t have the money, so I bought a Maxsym. Vespa GTS is a completely different matter, it is not like a luxury tourer sofa with a big discount, but a 50cc scooter stool, but the stool is ideal, brought to complete perfection. My favorite fit is with two right angles - between the hip and body and at the knee; size - probably, as much as I am larger than the average Japanese person, it is just as much larger than some good fifty-kopeck piece like a Honda Lead. If your rear is stiff during a normal landing, you can move to the passenger seat and ride with the chopper. A painted steel monocoque, with only a couple of minor parts made of plastic - no one does that anymore. Along the perimeter of the monocoque there are aluminum sealing moldings with a plastic seal, which are the first to take the blow, are easily replaceable and inexpensive. In general, I often recalled a phrase I once read on an American forum: “Vespa is over robustly built for a scooter.” One feels that the scooter was made for southern Europe as the only vehicle with considerable year-round mileage, and not for entertainment, everything was done with high quality, expensive, and pleasant. By the way, the power unit, without any problems, takes care of at least about 60,000 km before the first intervention, I know several GTS with such and greater mileage - pleasant scooters that do not cause a feeling of fatigue. In terms of service, the service is adequate, as I understand it, in Moscow there is only one for them - this is mentioned in 2 out of 3 advertisements for the sale of Snus in Sokolniki. The guys’ knowledge of their topic is amazing, they disassemble and reassemble motor scooters with practiced movements, like a Kalashnikov assault rifle, all consumables are available at prices comparable to the all-European Vespa store sip-scootershop. Examples of prices: original variator belt with replacement - 7,000 rubles, oil change, filter and air flushing - about 2,500 with materials, pads 1,700 original, 1,100 washable over 2,000 km malossi. There were no breakdowns in the 14,000 km of my mileage, except for the typical problem of a burnt-out o-ring in the muffler. There is no oil consumption at all. The rear tires last for about 10,000 km, they cost about 2,700 (michelin) in MrMoto, which is very pleasing after the prices for motor tires. The front one is still original with 21,000 miles on it. About the dynamics: the maximum speed under me (115 kg, let me remind you) is about 130 according to the speedometer, which corresponds to 123-124 according to GPS. 115-120 according to the speedometer goes easily and for a long time, in the left lane of the Moscow Ring Road you don’t feel miserable. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h really probably takes 10-11 seconds, but thanks to the old scooter principle “I’ll die, but I won’t let off the gas”, the speed of start and the 0-40 jerk from the traffic light, you leave the traffic light easily and guaranteed. Consumption is approximately 250 rubles per 150 km, a little over 4 liters per 100 km when driving all the way. In medium-heavy, dense and standing traffic, this is one of the fastest vehicles in general, faster only than motards, supersports and streets with frostbitten drivers. For example, I had a chance to drive all this stuff out of the Moscow Ring Road in the hunchbacked overalls of a BMW HP4 pilot :-), but this, of course, was the same Ivan Ivanovich. It openly provokes sudden driving, 25-35 minutes across the whole of Moscow to the opposite outskirts during the day on weekdays - everyday reality, and unlike riding a motorcycle, you think about business or something of your own, while moving quickly, in all weather conditions and regardless of traffic. If you don’t have your head in the clouds, it puts you in the mood of a kind of slacker teenager, and you drive even faster. In May, my car broke down seriously, and until the end of September the Vespa served as my main transport. For example, my passenger and I used it to take home a kitchen hood or a children's table and chair from Ikea... Another car was purchased only at the end of September, before somehow 4 wheels were not really needed - if we had a family and a child. In general, after 2 seasons, having a car and a motorcycle, I can’t see myself without a Vespa. There are alternatives too. For many who ride a lot on a good, powerful, heavy, expensive motorcycle in Moscow, I think it will be useful for early opening, late closing, traffic jams, reducing mileage and, accordingly, the cost of servicing the main motorcycle, and commuting to work. A couple of months ago I broke down again and bought a Vespa GTV250. This is a rare limited version of the same scooter, of which there were several times less produced than the GTS, and in Russia it is generally minuscule, stylized as the first Vespa of 1946, a beautiful pistachio color, with red seats made of genuine leather and other goodies. But this is the beginning of another story :-)
