Regal Raptor DD50E is a Chinese moped that has gained great popularity over the entire period of its sale due to its characteristic mini-chopper design. Despite all the claims, this is a motor scooter, since its engine has a displacement of 50 cubic meters and can be driven with an “M” license.

When choosing this moped as a vehicle for daily use, you need to understand that this is still a serious mechanism that requires regular maintenance. Everything about it is small, but it also requires cleaning, lubricating and securing.

Moreover, this is a vehicle for one person; the presence of a passenger forces the engine to work with increased voltage, which affects its service life.

With a fairly recognizable appearance, the Regal Raptor DD50E looks like a classic chopper. The Raptor is a reliable moped, easy to modify even in a garage, and easy to control.

  2. Then unscrew the drain plug at the bottom of the unit. The flow of air through the upper hole will allow the waste to drain into the substituted container.

Important! In order for the oil to pour out completely, the Raptor must be tilted to the right, then to the left.

  1. Before adding oil, do not forget to close the bottom plug. 600-700 ml of oil is placed in the engine. It works equally well on both synthetic and semi-synthetic oils.
  2. The top cap is screwed tightly after filling.

A scooter doesn’t break down often, but if it does, you can fix it with your own hands right on the street.

  1. It is difficult to switch off the speed in the gearbox - the gears will need to be replaced.
  2. An unusual ringing noise appears while the engine is running - the connecting rods will need to be replaced.
  3. If the starter does not work, you need to check and, if necessary, replace the fuse on the yellow wire passing behind the battery.
  4. If traction deteriorates, you will have to repair the variator.

Another surprise for two-wheeled vehicles is the anti-theft system. And not a simple electronic one, which does not allow you to bring it in, but also one that has some kind of locking mechanism on the steering wheel that does not allow the device to be rolled away.

Another controversial aspect of the scooter is the build quality. For the city and its smooth roads it is quite tolerable. Moreover, if the moped is treated with care and stored in a warm garage, it can ride for quite a long time without any breakdowns. But on the other hand, when “riding” on country roads, dirt roads, parts begin to fall off from it - a muffler, a running board, and so on. Again, this is a moped, not an all-terrain vehicle, it is not intended for extreme use in the harsh Russian realities. So calling the Chinese assembly weak can only be called subjective.

Operation and Maintenance

With regular and proper maintenance, the Raptor moped can serve without any major malfunctions, despite its Chinese origin. One of the most important service procedures, oil change, occurs in several stages:

  1. Unscrew the plug located on the right side of the engine.
  2. Drain the old fluid. To do this, unscrew the nut from the bottom of the motor (use an 18 wrench). Do not forget to place a container under the power unit for testing.
  3. After draining the oil, rock the scooter from side to side to completely remove the excess.
  4. After completely freeing the engine from waste fluid, tighten the nut back.
  5. Pour new oil into the hole from which the cap was screwed off. For convenience, you can use a funnel. The usual volume of oil is 600 ... 700 ml. You can pour synthetic or semi-synthetic.
  6. After filling the internal space, tighten the neck.

Repairing a moped can be done at home. The most common breakdowns are:

  • The neutral switches on poorly - the gears need to be replaced.
  • The engine makes a noise when riding - you need to look at the moped's passport and replace the connecting rods.
  • The alarm and electric starter only work when the engine is running - replace the fuse on the pink wire behind the battery.
  • The traction has disappeared - you need to study the device of the variator and see if everything is in order with it.

The ancestor of the Regal Raptor moped was the 50 cc Honda Jazz chopper, released by Honda in 1987. The mini chopper quickly became popular. A proven and indestructible engine from the Super Cab, purely American silhouettes, a lot of chrome - these are exactly the combinations that contributed to the success of this model in the Japanese motor market. After some time, the model was discontinued, but this did not stop Chinese companies from starting to produce its clones, for example, Iron Eagle. Li-Fen's company began producing a clone of the Honda Jazz called Regal Raptor DD50E.

The Regal Raptor is available in two versions - with manual and automatic transmissions. The estimated cost of the new device is 35-45 thousand rubles. This small device always attracts the attention of others, who ask the question “what is it called?” and ask to be photographed, and motorcyclists on big bikes raise their hands in greeting.

The mini-chopper was chosen as the first motorcycle because it did not require a license, was quite light (85 kg), was inexpensive, and you can increase the piston capacity to 75 cc with impunity. Plus, unlike scooters, the manual Regal Raptor allows you to learn the basics of shifting gears and riding a motorcycle. And it looks much cooler than a regular “stool.” The gears are shifted in a circle downward, i.e. first down after neutral comes 1st gear, then 2, 3 and 4. To go to neutral you need to click back in the same way. Oddly enough, this method of gear shifting turned out to be more convenient and successful than that of “adult” motorcycles, where gears are switched according to the scheme: down from neutral - 1st, up - 2, then 3, 4, 5.

The ride on the mini-chopper is comfortable, the seat is soft. Mirrors, switches, handles - everything is in place and conveniently located. Only the gear shift paw is very close to the footrest, so in motorcycle boots you had to put your foot sideways to change gear. The passenger seat is small, but also comfortable with its own footrests. The maximum speed with a 72 cc piston is about 80 km/h. Fuel consumption is very low, but it is inconvenient that you can track the gasoline level only by the number of kilometers traveled, checking the consumption. The moped is quite simple and easy to operate. The traffic police never stopped me.

Cons of Raptor:

  • No fuel sensor.
  • The side cases are made of leatherette and are made rather poorly and are short-lived.
  • Not a very good suspension, which is noticeable on speed bumps.
  • 1.5-2 years after the start of operation, a problem with the electrical wiring appeared - the motorcycle would not idle and stalled in the rain.
  • After the fall, the Raptor's steering wheel was twisted, but with the help of a man we managed to straighten it.

In general, the moped is good for beginners, but you should buy a new one or a one-year-old one if you have no experience in repairing motorcycles.
