Specifications

Kayo 140 is a strong mid-ranger in its class . This is one of its main advantages; for a modest price, it will readily demonstrate everything it can do.

Engine

Kayo 140 is equipped with a 4-stroke, 1-cylinder, air-cooled engine . The motor does not have a balance shaft and, like many “single-barrel” engines, loves high speeds, reaching a peak power of 13.9 hp. to the 8000 rpm mark . The torque of 9.5 Nm is enough for the most aggressive off-road driving.

Transmission

Chinese engineers equipped the Kayo 140 with a class-standard 4-speed gearbox (1-N-2-3-4-). It fully complies with the rest of the technical characteristics of the pit bike, and does not cause any complaints in operation.

Chassis and brakes

Despite its compact size, the pit bike is suitable for both short and tall bikers. A steel frame with a short wheelbase, a hard seat, an assembled seating position - everything is familiar. Disc brakes on both wheels are simple, but quite effective. The suspension is durable and energy-intensive; a conventional telescopic fork a monoshock absorber in the rear . The design of the fork is not very successful; dirt often gets under the seals, as a result of which oil begins to leak out. The problem is eliminated by disassembling and cleaning, and in some cases replacing the seals is not even necessary.

Electronics

The Kayo 140 has nothing more complicated than a battery and an electric starter (a kickstarter is also provided). There is no light optics, so you won’t be able to ride in the dark.

Weight and dimensions

The weight of the Kayo 140 pit bike does not exceed 71 kg (dry weight) , and five liters of gasoline with a liter of oil will not greatly affect its handling. And don’t let its modest size fool you, this is not a toy! The bike is peppy enough to pose a threat to an inexperienced rider.

Controllability

The amazing maneuverability of the Kayo 140 is combined with low directional stability. When driving off-road, you constantly have to “catch” it so as not to lose control, and the steering wheel breaks out of your hands at every turn. Behavior typical of cross-country motorcycles, due to its specific characteristics.

Fuel consumption

The pit bike’s gas tank fits 5.5 liters , the carburetor and engine handle the AI-92 perfectly. Consumption depends on driving style, and is usually measured not in mileage, but in engine hours. One tank is enough for a long enough trip that can exhaust even an experienced rider.

Design

Kayo 140 is the most popular representative of pit bikes in Russia. Its design is based on a steel frame made of a tubular profile. This design is distinguished by the peculiar placement of the power plant. The engine is suspended from below. At the same time, the size of the base itself is 1225 mm, and the dry weight is only 71 kg. The Kayo 140's steering column is at a sharper angle than other vehicles in its class. As a result of this decision, it turned out to make the motorcycle more maneuverable and stable.

You can purchase transport in the online store. A special box is constructed in which Kayo 140 is transported. Photos of the packaging can be seen in the article. After this, each motorcyclist assembles his own iron horse. The kit includes all the necessary tools and spare parts.

Repair and tuning

Like most other representatives of this class of motorcycles, the bike is easy to maintain and repair. There are many tuning options available, but does it make sense?

Repair

You can disassemble and assemble the pit bike yourself; its design is extremely simple. Any maintenance and repairs can be carried out on your own, or with the help of friends. But there is no point in contacting motorcycle services if you have at least basic knowledge about the design of motorcycles.

Spare parts

Dealers have everything you need in stock, spare parts are cheap. Many parts fit both other Kayo models and pit bikes from other manufacturers.

Tuning

You can find a lot of universal tuning in wide access. You can replace everything, from stickers and plastic to wheels, piston and steering wheel, and this undertaking will cost a fairly modest amount.

Frame

The frame of the Kayo-140 pit bike is presented in the form of tubular steel profiles. The method of mounting the engine is interesting. It does not lie on the frame, but is suspended from below.

As for the steering column, it also has its own characteristics. Its angle of inclination is sharper than that of other models in this class. Due to this, maneuverability and road stability have improved.

The design of the bike includes plastic inserts. It is worth noting that this material is of high quality. It is flexible and soft enough not to break at the slightest impact.

Advantages and disadvantages

Kayo 140 is a well- balanced pit bike , light and moderately powerful. But it still belongs to the budget segment.

Advantages

  • Cost of purchase and maintenance. Kayo 140 will not bankrupt the owner, despite the short service intervals typical of pit bikes.
  • Sturdy plastic . He is not afraid of falls, although if he falls on his side unsuccessfully, there is a risk of breaking the front wing.
  • Energy-intensive pendants . They successfully cope with the weight of even an overweight driver.
  • Good torque . The pit bike easily gets onto the rear wheel even in second gear, just open the gas sharply.

Flaws

  • Mediocre directional stability . Due to the shortened wheelbase and small radius of the wheels themselves, the Kayo 140 does not handle the road very well.
  • Frequent maintenance . It is advisable to lubricate and tighten the chain, clean the air filter and perform other operations after each trip. The oil changes on average after 2-3 trips.
  • Vibrations . The Kayo 140 has a lot of them, since there is no balance shaft in the engine, and for this reason the bolts and nuts regularly loosen. Their tightness must be checked from time to time.

Origin

Kayo is one of the leaders in the production and sale of small motorcycles - pit bikes. The plant was built back in the 90s of the last century in China. The quality of the products is quite good for this category of budget vehicles. After purchase, you should immediately check all components and tighten all fasteners. Kayo 140 has some weak points, but with proper care and timely repairs they can be eliminated. If you monitor its performance and carry out maintenance on time, your pit bike will bring only positive emotions for a long time.

Owner reviews

A very cheerful toy, it rides happily under a 90-kilogram guy, and when the gas is sharply opened, it tries to stand on the rear wheel. For rides in the fields outside the city - the best thing is that the moped is light, lighter than any enduro, and difficult to drop. Alexey, Voronezh.

A tenacious pete, but gentle and demanding in terms of service. It is not afraid of falls, the plastic is strong, the iron is too, but it must be serviced according to engine hours, no less often than the manual recommends, and better yet, even more often. Then you will run for a long time and without problems. Anton, Yaroslavl.

It’s not my first pit bike, but in terms of price-quality ratio it’s the best. There are more interesting options, but they all cost 100+k. If you look towards not particularly evil four-stroke engines, then Kayo 140 will do. Arseny, Moscow.

Control

The Kayo 140 cross-country motorcycle, the characteristics of which are quite suitable for carrying out the assigned tasks during a cross-country race, has a minimal set of sensors on the dashboard. The designers decided to limit themselves to motorcycle watches only. Levers and control knobs are standardized and interchangeable with other models of this company. All levers fold down except the rear brake. This is necessary so that if the motorcycle falls, these control parts do not break.

Another disadvantage of the Kayo 140 design is the lack of a headlight, which limits the time the pit bike can be used.

Conclusion

The Kayo 140 is one of the many pit bikes currently available on the market. It has many competitors that are similar in price and characteristics, so the choice is wide. There is no reason to choose this particular bike, but there is also no reason to refuse it - it’s up to you to decide.

Engine

The engine is one of the strong points of the Kayo 140. The engine performance is simply incredible for such a compact vehicle. The rated power is slightly higher than the average in this class. The four-stroke engine with a volume of 140 cm3 is capable of developing 13.9 horsepower. In order to avoid troubles caused by engine overheating, the designers provided air-oil cooling. Kayo 140 starts using kickstarter.

Transmission

The Kayo 140 pit bike is equipped with a manual transmission with four gears. Speeds change easily and clearly. Finding neutral gear is not difficult; usually it is caught the first time. A special feature of the gearbox is its very short first speed.

The gearbox is driven by a chain drive. It would seem that a chain is more reliable than a belt. But it's not that simple. This model uses a 420 chain. During the operation of the bike, it periodically stretches. Therefore, its service life is short.

Operation and Maintenance

With proper use, Kayo 140 will last for quite a long time. But to do this, the vehicle must be monitored from the moment of purchase.

After purchase, you must carefully check all components and elements of the bike for manufacturing defects. Tighten all fasteners that need it. Running in a motorcycle must be carried out in compliance with all necessary rules. When using the bike intensively, it is necessary to change sprockets and chains regularly (once a season).

It is worth remembering that when operating a vehicle in winter conditions, special care must be taken. Decorative plastic hardens in the cold and becomes more fragile. Jumping at subzero temperatures is fraught with failure of control handles (brakes, clutch) and shock absorbers.

As for spare parts for the Kayo-140, there are no particular problems. Many details and elements are similar to other models. Therefore, if necessary, you can even replace it with parts from other bikes.

Kayo 140: price

One of the important indicators is the cost of a pit bike. There are two options here: buying online and buying in a salon. Each of them has its pros and cons. When purchasing Kayo-140 on the Internet, you can pay about forty thousand rubles. In the showroom the cost will be slightly higher. But in this situation, you can contact the same organization to conduct scheduled technical inspections. In similar stores, the cost of the same models can be about ten thousand more than in online stores.
