Kayo 125: technical specifications, photos, reviews

When choosing a pit bike, many people choose Chinese models. They are practical, have good rigidity, and the driving characteristics allow you to participate in “light races” and drive through forests without any problems.

At the same time, the new unit is comparable in price to the killed Japanese scooter. But even when choosing such a technique, several parameters must be taken into account. Namely, quality and brand.

As strange as it may sound, none of the Chinese brands manufacture their own parts for the entire pit bike . And he will not be responsible for the quality of purchased parts. All components are purchased from one or two manufacturers, after which they are assembled according to their own standards.

Small, but smart

Incredible power and maneuverability are what distinguishes pit bikes from the fast enduro and motocross sport bikes, in addition to their small size. There are many people who want to try themselves as a racer, overcoming difficult tracks and rough terrain. At the same time, many novice pilots are wondering: with which model can they start mastering moderate off-road conditions and performing various stunts?

This is where the answer comes naturally: you can start with any model, but on a Kayo 125 pit bike or any similar model, you will be able to master the skills of motocross riding. In addition, the capabilities of “pits” have long been appreciated by stuntriders, since with a weight of about 70 kg and small dimensions, motorcycles of this class are capable of reaching speeds of 80-85 km/h in a matter of seconds. In addition, pit bikes, which belong to the class of lightweight motocross motorcycles, have a super-strong design, thanks to which athletes can easily perform various acrobatic elements.

Dimensions

As mentioned above, the Kayo 125 pit bike is small in size. Its length is 1650 mm and its width does not exceed 750 mm. The bike's seat height reaches 885 mm. Taking into account the steering wheel, the height increases to 1130 mm.

The wheelbase length is 1225 mm. The ground clearance is 350 mm. Bike weight – 71 kg.

The front wheels are different in size from the rear. Tires with dimensions 70/100-17 are installed in front. The rear wheels are slightly larger - their size is 90/100-14. But this is not the only option for installed wheels. Depending on the specific model, the radius of the tires may vary. But the rear tires are always slightly larger than the front tires - this is a key feature of this type of motorcycle.

Weight and dimensions of the Kayo 125 pit bike model

The lightweight Kayo 125 motorcycle can be produced in a Basic version, which is considered a basic model, as well as a Classic version. The latter is intended for more experienced pilots, as it is equipped with a modernized front suspension (fork with improved shock-absorbing characteristics). In addition, there is a headlight and a battery.

So, Kayo 125 model CRF-801-7L has a wheelbase of 1225 mm. The dimensions of the motorcycle are 1750×750×1130 mm, respectively, while the ground clearance of the vehicle is 350 mm. As you can see, the dimensions are not too large, and the weight is only 71 kg. The front wheel has a 70/100*17 tire, and the rear one has a 70/100*14 tire. Although this model of pit bike can often be equipped with 14- and 12-inch wheels (on the front and rear suspensions).

Dimensions and weight

The length is standard for pit bikes of this class. I can notice from myself that if an adult rides, then he will have to sit in the back almost on a spoiler.

In terms of external parameters, the brand usually adheres to the same standards. Pit bikes from Kayo have:

  • length - 1755 mm;
  • width - 758 mm;
  • height - 1150 mm;
  • seat height - 888 mm.
  • wheelbase - 1224 mm.

Dry weight is only 71 kg.

If we remember that Kayo is one of the trendsetters in Chinese bikes, it is not surprising that despite different stickers on the body kit, the basic parameters of all bikes from the Middle Kingdom are identical.

Motorcycle engine of the Classic version. Fuel consumption

Thanks to the installed 11-horsepower four-stroke single-cylinder Lifan engine on the Kayo 125 pit bike, the technical characteristics of the model are very impressive. The engine displacement is 120 cm³. The maximum speed developed on the Kayo 125 motorcycle is 80 km/h. It has an air-type cooling system.

The power unit is able to produce high torque (8 thousand rpm), which largely contributes to the development of excellent maneuverability. As for the engine installed on the Classic Kayo 125 version (reviews from satisfied owners indicate this), there are practically no complaints about its operation.

A direct-flow type muffler is installed on the “pit”, so the exhaust sound is moderate. The motorcycle is equipped with a plastic 5.5-liter fuel tank, which has a special bleed valve. The fuel consumption of this model is about 2.5 liters per 100 km.

Basic version

Chinese-made motorbikes with a volume of 125 cm3, made in the basic version, can be considered using the Kayo YX-125 Basic model as an example. Produced in 2015, the bike is distinguished, as the name suggests, by the YX engine installed on it.

The power unit is a four-stroke engine with a displacement of 123 cubic meters. Its power reaches 11 l/s. The engine is air-cooled and has electronic ignition. An interesting fact is that for this modification the manufacturers installed a two-valve head made of cast iron.

Kayo 125 in the basic configuration is distinguished by agility and maneuverability. He is capable of developing good speed. The maximum value is 80 km/h.

There is no instrument panel as such. Instead, an hour meter and an electronic tachometer are installed.

Gearbox and brake system

The bike is equipped with a manual 4-speed gearbox. It should be noted that the inclusion is carried out from the first position, in which the neutral gear is installed, and subsequent speeds are switched upward. According to many users, this is not entirely convenient, since it is not always possible to engage neutral gear the first time. Although, having gotten used to it, no one pays attention to this shortcoming. On new Kayo 125 motorcycle models (reviews from bikers point to this small drawback) there may be some difficulties in the operation of the box. However, they disappear after a short break-in.

Great confidence is caused by the hydraulic disc-type brake system that is installed on the bike. Reinforced hoses add additional reliability. The brakes do not cause any complaints and work equally effectively both on light alloy wheels and with a pair of wheels (tires, discs) for driving on difficult roads.

Classic performance

The Kayo 125 Classic pit bike is equipped with a single-cylinder Lifan power unit. This is a four-stroke engine with a power of 11 l/s and a displacement of 120 cm3. The torque, which can reach 8,000 rpm, is impressive. An air cooling system is used. These characteristics allow the motorcycle to accelerate to 80 km/h, while the bike has good maneuverability. The pleasant sound of the running engine is diluted by the sound of the exhaust.

The engine consumes 2.5 liters per 100 km. The fuel tank with a capacity of 5.5 liters is made of plastic and equipped with a special bleed valve.

The four-speed manual transmission has some special features, which include the way the gears are shifted. The first position is neutral gear. When selecting the following modes, the presser foot must be raised up. This switching method takes some getting used to. The bike is equipped with a disc brake system with reinforced hoses.

The frame, made of steel, has a fairly simple design. But this is precisely what ensures its reliability. It is able to withstand the loads that arise even after jumping. Up front there is an inverted telescopic fork. A pendulum-type shock absorber represents the rear suspension - this design allows you to adjust the stiffness at your discretion.

External elements are made of plastic that can withstand shocks and other mechanical impacts. After the impact they return to their original position.

Design Features

The design of the Kayo 125 pit bike (photo above) is based on a very durable steel frame that can withstand heavy loads, including when performing various jumps. The front suspension is presented in the form of a telescopic fork (inverted), and the rear suspension is a pendulum-type monoshock absorber. If necessary, the pilot can always adjust the level of required rigidity.

Unlike most motorcycles, on this bike the facing elements and wing arches are made of impact-resistant plastic, which also return to their original position under various mechanical influences. In truth, the pit bike does not have a dashboard, but it does have a tachometer and a motorcycle meter installed.

Pitbike Kayo Urban 125: urban adaptation

Kayo 125 urban is a city dweller, economical and reliable, like all its brothers. The factory configuration comes pre-installed with everything necessary for driving on public roads, including an electric starter and documents: the city version of the pit is equipped with a PTS. The manufacturer has not forgotten the initial purpose of the motorcycle - to participate in competitions; on models with a kick, a platform is provided for attaching the starting number. The location of the conventional kick in models with an electric starter is inconvenient - if you analyze reviews of the Kayo 125, most often in winter the motorcycle starts only in the traditional way.

Reviews from owners of Kayo pit bikes

Despite the fact that the model has very small dimensions, according to reviews from many owners, even a person with a height of 185 cm feels comfortable on it, while the load on the pit bike has virtually no effect on its mobility. Bikers note the high dynamics and agility of the motorcycle, as well as its adaptability to jumping, so it is ideal for mini-cross and stand riding.

In addition, most athletes focus their attention on its high reliability and ease of use. In addition, everyone notes the successful design of the front suspension, thanks to which the bike copes with small-radius turns without any problems. In general, the purchased bike will not make its owner regret the choice and is completely worth the money spent.

Pit bike Kayo YX-125 Basic

Speaking about the Chinese Kayo 125 motorbikes, the review should be continued with the basic version of the 2015 release, which is an equally attractive model. It is equipped with a new type of YX engine, which appears in its name. The model is not equipped with a headlight, which means that the rider can improve and customize his bike as desired. The car is equipped with an 11-horsepower 4-stroke 123 cc air-cooled engine and an electronic ignition system. A special feature of this engine is its two-valve cast iron head.

The motorcycle, like the previous Classic version, has no less agility and a maximum speed of 80 km/h. As for design features, the models are basically identical. The same front and rear suspensions, gearbox and its shift diagram and other main components of the car.

The post is not only about running in the new pit, but also contains a little background on how I came to this run-in.:) The main text is about the first 5 m/h of the new Kayo 125 KRZ pit. Further along the cut. I first got on a motorcycle when I was 19 years old, as soon as I opened Cat.A. and drove the entire student body in the good old Izh Yu5. For those years and times, it was a super motorcycle, and there were no others at that time. But this is not about him. Then there was a long break and auto experience, after 10 years I bought a scooter, first 50 cc, then 150 cc, and two years ago I got on a scooter that I had wanted for a long time and still like (Steed VLS). My son is growing up and I started choosing motorcycles for him. That’s how I came across pit bikes. I read the Internet, YouTube and realized that I wanted one for myself to use both during the season and in the off-season. The choice was made on Kayo with 17/14 wheels. The choice was based on the following criteria: 1. I don’t need an adult enduro/cross bike with big wheels 2. My height and weight feel more comfortable on Pit’s 17/14 wheels (saddle height 885 mm), although I’m not standing on it at full strength either foot 3. For me to ride along forest roads without pretensions to sporting achievements, a 125 cc engine is enough, which will quite adequately drive me along paths and fields. 4. I wanted new equipment so as not to touch the traces of use of the previous owner 5. Of all the Chinese brands, Kayo had the least number of problems. 6. The price tag should be no more than 50 tr, which I was willing to spend on getting some light fun in my free time. Having put all these thoughts into one pile, I received a completely conscious decision in the form of a pit bike voiced at the beginning. This is the bike I received and started running it in.

First of all, I changed the shipping oil to semi-synthetic liquid moth, soaked the air vent, checked all visible bolts and... Let's go :)

The first impressions were strange and ambiguous. After the weight, weight distribution, landing and engine of the main motor (Steed), the first impressions of this bike were like “oh well, how can you ride it, something is wrong, etc.” It is tall, it chatters, you have to catch it, sharp clutch, short and powerful first gear. But 5 minutes and I began to get used to it. To begin with, I drove along the roads of the nearest dachas. Then I turned onto the nearest path into the forest. Here!!! This is where his path is. Initially, I planned short rides along the country lane. Wrong. It’s not fun to drive on country asphalt, gravel and dirt roads with small bumps and holes, despite the toothed wheels and relatively soft suspension. Because driving in first is boring and dreary, and if you accelerate at least in second (15-20 km/h), then driving over small bumps turns the ride into a dull shake. Perhaps the problem is in the relatively small wheels, or maybe in something else. And only after driving out into the forest onto a road/path with more protracted potholes and bumps, the suspension began to work its magic. and where its moves were not enough, I stood on the steps and passed almost any forest irregularities without slowing down the gas. Conclusion: driving along a broken country road with dried mud at speeds below “more speed less holes” is not his element. Driving along forest paths, ruts, soft ground, deep holes - this is where it is wonderful.

I especially like its dimensions and weight. Even having driven to a place where you can no longer go or walk, since there are deep ruts on the sides with knee-deep water, and in front there is a swamp where the wheels fall through, the issue is very easily resolved. We take the bike by the tail and turn it 180 degrees in place and ride back to harder ground :)

I have currently traveled 4.7 hours according to his own computer data. According to the manual, the first oil change is scheduled for 5 o'clock. As a result of these 4-plus hours, I noticed that I was looking forward to continuing the run-in, which I do between daily home/family/work.

Before the last ride, I decided to adjust the chain tension, as I noticed that when I changed the gas mode (rolling at idle/go), I could hear the clicking of the chain on the sprockets. I looked at the sag tolerance in the manual (20-24 mm), found a measurement mark on the pendulum - it turned out to be normal (apparently it was slightly overtightened from the factory). Taking advantage of the moment, I lubricated the chain. As a result, I did the last ride with a clicking sound, but the rustling of the chain (buzzing) on the tensioner (the cover on top of the pendulum) became less audible.

At the moment, nothing has fallen off, nothing has been unscrewed (except for the nut on top of the traverse, which was not tightened) and a large number of positive emotions have been received. And here is such a satisfied face :)

What update did the motorbike receive?

Before presenting the updated cross-bike model to fans of motorcycles designed for cross-country riding and performing various tricks, the manufacturers subjected some components to modifications. For example, wheel hubs are now equipped with a completely new type of quality bearings that significantly improve maneuverability and dexterity. In addition, they are designed for long-term use and prolonged impact, which is important for the very agile Kayo 125 bike.

The rear part of the car is equipped with an elongated plastic wing and a special casing made of durable polymer, which protects the surface of the monoshock absorber from dirt, which significantly prolongs its functionality. The car's brakes are represented by improved petal-type discs, thanks to which braking has become even more confident.

Agile and very fast

The 123-horsepower engine certainly provides excellent speed and agility to the Kayo 125 pit bike. The performance of this machine would be incomplete without a reliable suspension, thanks to which jumps and acrobatic elements are performed. In Kayo Basic, as in the more advanced classic version, the front suspension is presented in the form of a telescopic inverted fork with a stroke of 735 mm. The rear suspension is made of a pendulum type, with a monoshock absorber with a travel of 360 mm.

The KMS-428 brand chain (Taiwan) ensures reliable operation of the drive of the Kayo 125 bike. By the way, this motorcycle is equipped with a chain catcher mechanism to prevent it from jumping off and possible damage to the articulated parts (sprockets, bushings). A special feature of these motorcycles is that the manufacturers have provided for possible modifications to the machine in the future, so the design has a number of seats and additional technological holes. For example, if a pilot wants to install an air filter, then the mountings and installation space are already provided for this.

Who can use a pit bike? Motorcycle cost

Kayo 125 pit bikes are suitable for absolutely everyone, as they are durable and maneuverable, as well as very easy to maintain and operate. They can be used for mini-cross training, cross-country riding and extreme riding skills training. Also, “Kayo” motorcycles will appeal to all motorcycle enthusiasts; moreover, they are very popular among teenagers, because pit bikes are full-fledged motorcycles with a sporty character. Their small dimensions allow you to store equipment anywhere. In addition, they can easily fit into the trunk of a car, which greatly facilitates transportation, so motorcycles can be transported to places of intended training and car rides.

Kayo pit bikes can rightfully be called universal machines, since by “changing” tires and changing wheels, you can get almost any type of motorcycle out of the box. It is necessary to highlight one more feature of this motorcycle: there is no need to register it as a vehicle, so you can ride it immediately after purchase.

As for the cost of Chinese Kayo pit bikes, used motorcycles 2 years old can be purchased for 35-40 thousand rubles. The Basic model in its basic configuration will cost the future owner 59 thousand rubles. Motorcycles of the Classic series can be purchased for 65.5 thousand rubles.
