Review of the children's ATV Honda Magna (Honda Magna) ATV 50

ATVs for children

Modern ATVs are becoming more and more popular, and this interest concerns an increasingly wider range of people.

The aggressive and original shapes, the highest cross-country ability and the versatility of these all-terrain vehicles simply fascinate lovers of outdoor activities, and especially young people.

The famous Japanese Magna ATV 50 ATV is the smallest model in the concern’s lineup.

For this reason, it is ideal for children and teenagers who love technology and speed.

Design and equipment

One look at the four-wheeled “baby” is enough to fall in love with the model.

The compact and original all-terrain vehicle is made in a sporty style and has a rather aggressive appearance.

Wide plastic fenders and footrests, a comfortable seat and steering wheel , impressive wheels and a large headlight, together with the neat contours of the fuel tank, create a feeling of solidity , completeness and reliability of the design, as well as the dynamics and speed of the car.

Among other things, the design of the Honda Magna 50 includes: an ignition switch, a speedometer (optional), an electric starter and an alarm system, and the color scheme has several options, from calm (silver-gray and protective) to catchy and bright (blood red and poisonous -yellow) colors.

The development of the Yamaha Bolt 950 model was carried out by professionals from the American subsidiary of Yamaha - Star Motorcycles.

The characteristics of this motorcycle from Yamaha are very good, as for a cruiser class motorcycle.

Age category

The Honda Magna 50 ATV is designed for children aged 6 - 14 years .
Controlling the ATV is convenient and elementary , so it does not require any special skills.

Among other things, the machine can be operated at any time of the year and in any weather conditions, for which the basic configuration includes all-season mud tires and a cross-country protective helmet.

The Magna ATV 50 model is characterized by increased safety, which is confirmed by the presence of a speed limiter and a highly reliable braking system.

Such a device will be an excellent driving simulator for a child .

First acquaintance part 1 — Honda Magna 50

All my life I dreamed of a motorcycle. As a child, the boys and I rode around the dacha on a Carpathian moped, in the garage they sorted out its engine, and tried to repair units that could not withstand the loads. Then there were rides on 2-stroke Minsk, Izh Jupiter, Izh Planet, Voskhod 3m-01. But it was all common, they bought and repaired it together. My soul wanted my own bike, the criteria of which were formed over the years.

And so, at the end of the next season, I decided to take myself a stick in order to try out trips around crazy Moscow and its environs, calculate the material benefits of such trips and evaluate the moral benefits.

Somehow it turned out that the domestic brands of motorcycles I knew required increased attention to their maintenance, as well as the availability of category A licenses. There was also financial insufficiency, which limited my options for choice.

I decided to do a simple search on sites selling motorcycles. The search criterion was increasing price. Having thrown away a bunch of broken motorcycles and domestic examples, a motorcycle called Magna 50 from Honda caught my eye, but it had a drawback - the price was almost 60 thousand rubles. But in terms of characteristics it was simply ideal:

  • power 3.9hp
  • working volume 49cm3
  • 4 stroke
  • electric starter
  • classic chopper look

The choice was made and I, armed with a friend and a skinny wad of money, went to look at the bike. The first question that confused me when choosing was the size of the stick, since my height is 188 cm and I foresaw certain difficulties in ease of control. But when I got to the seller and he took us to the motorcycle garage, I realized that height was the least of the problems. The motorcycle simply did not have enough bolts: the cylinder head and the block itself were held only by studs, all the intermediate bolts were missing, the carburetor simply poured gasoline from the float chamber. Oil hung in snot around the perimeter of the engine. But their hands were already itching, and desire was overflowing, and after bargaining with the former owner, they shook hands and began to equip him for the campaign. There was about 12 km of driving through Moscow traffic jams. The main problem was the absence of both mirrors and the carburetor that was heavily rich in the mixture. We poured 5 liters of gasoline and were on our way. My friend and I left at the same time, by car and on a bike. It was immediately noted that the needle in the carburetor had to be replaced with a needle of a different length; black smoke was constantly coming out of the pipe at engine speeds different from the rest. When reaching high speeds, a fairly strong drop in thrust was observed, which clearly indicated a clogged nozzle. Without mirrors and traction, driving in heavy traffic was simply scary, but the moped reached the garage 2 times faster than the car. The period of preparation for operation has begun.

After flying from the springboard, this teenage ATV always turns on its wheels:

The biggest motorcycle adventure in my short adult life was a motorcycle trip through a quarter of Ukraine to the sea in two days. Sometimes for adventure you just need to drop everything, put on a leather jacket in 40 degree heat, walk up to the motorcycle and say to yourself - I’m going to the sea.

“The August sun was hot, it was hot below 40, but I was confidently moving away from Kharkov. Initially, I was driving and just enjoying the road. I thought that on this day I would just get to Dnepropetrovsk, see the Dnieper and go home. But that’s not the case...) The road has a magical property of drawing you in and you drive as if in a trance, looking at everything around you - it’s famously addictive! This is great! This is something worth working for, working from the heart, so that you can then rest from the heart and feel this incomparable taste of complete freedom!”

(i) Taken out of context, sounds like a plot)
The beginning of a long journey and the biggest adventure of my life. We will have 1025 kilometers of travel at sea on a (under) motorcycle (Honda Magna 50cc). Oncoming evening, sun, ideal road (and then not quite), an accident at two in the morning 350 km from home with bent wheels, searching for a tire service...

Meanwhile, the August sun was hot, it was hot below 40, but I was confidently moving away from Kharkov. This is something worth working for, working from the heart, so that you can then rest from the heart and feel this incomparable taste of complete freedom!

A fifty-cc air-cooled vehicle tends to heat up in such heat, so I stood in the shade under a sign near the highway to let my cruiser cool down a little) And in general, the Kharkov-Dnepropetrovsk highway. Just you, a motorcycle, two free days and the road. A fascinating road that floats past every now and then, and you just have to enjoy the process, stopping occasionally at a gas station. I don't even know what could be better.

I remember this moment well to this day. I don’t know why, but it was on this section of the road, when I looked into the distance of these steppes on the border of the Dnepropetrovsk region - I realized that this was the real freedom that I was looking for. I was truly happy on this particular section of the road, enjoying the moments, saying to myself: “I live here and now.”

Meanwhile, the Dnieper became closer with every kilometer passed, and the sun approached the horizon. The realization came that we would have to meet Dnepropetrovsk either at full sunset or already at dusk.

And here I am near Dnepropetrovsk! This city, like its region, greeted me atmospherically - these pixelated dots in the distance of the sign are nothing more than hot air balloons that regularly fly outside this city. Seeing it live is a very atmospheric sight. At least because you are driving along a new road into the unknown and for the first time you see these domes rising into the heights at sunset

Just now I remember my thoughts when I stopped at this sign: “And where have my travels taken me... I’m God knows where from home, and night is ahead. magna - don’t let me down!” However, I was confident in my wheels) Real Japanese technology is worth trying at least once on such long-distance trips of 1025 km to understand what their vaunted quality is. These are trouble-free engines that start and run with just a push, even 20 years after their release.

I saw the Dnieper for the first time. Driving past Dnepropetrovsk, the brain automatically gives the command inside to move further towards Zaporozhye. There were more than enough swimmers past the legendary river.

The night went on, I was a little tired, but I was glad to hear at the gas station that Zaporozhye was already somewhere nearby. Roads in the Zaporozhye region... I’d rather not say which ones. Did you understand. Due to the fact that on a small Honda Manga 50 there is terribly weak light, I often did not see the potholes and to this day I remember the road through Zaporozhye as torture (I would never want to return again with that fatigue to that region), in a word, negative memories.

This is Melitopol. Coming soon to be my favorite city of the entire trip. Having arrived here at 3:00 in the morning, I realized that I was simply falling asleep at the wheel and that either I was being dragged into a passing truck and fell asleep again, or some pillar would “cross my path” and “I would fall apart.” I wanted to sleep badly. To the right of this sign there was a planting and a field with hay. I roll into this planting, collect hay for my imaginary bed, put it on the ground and go to bed. In a leather jacket, a helmet, as is. As I fell asleep I felt that dew had begun to gather on me (the morning was cold). The motorcycle stood nearby, and its exhaust, after 400 km of travel, simply crunched from its hot state. Without thinking twice, I realized to use the motorcycle as a stove-bed) I fell asleep for a couple of hours. woke up at dawn to the sound of rumbling trucks passing by. It was cold and there were only one thoughts in my head - where the hell am I. Where the hell have you gotten to? It's not a dream. On the other hand, looking at the chrome of his magna and the shape of the motorcycle, he said - wow, how fucking awesome you are! This is all live damn!) And I moved on! In Melitopol, a half-asleep local dropped into the ATB, had breakfast and continued on to the sea!

The road until sunrise seemed damn cold. I actually drove shivering from the cold, despite the fact that I was wearing a jacket in the middle of summer. I was looking forward to the dawn and the desert climate at +40) Which happened a moment later. In general, when I saw this sea sign “Azov region” I could already feel the maritime climate. The sky seems different, it differs in some way from ours. The fields are different. The difference is subtle, but everything is different. You understand that it is by the sea. Nice realization.

Where would we be without dawn? I managed to capture this moment! In fact, it’s a fraction of a few seconds; it rises before our eyes!

I was here :)

My route. Turning on the maps on the phone and realizing that just like that, I had driven through almost the whole of Ukraine from north to south on my measly two days off between work (! without any vacations, sick leave, etc.), raising my head up and saying, “WOW.” :)

My MAGNA 50 in Primorsk. It was a cool morning, but we were almost there.

On our way to the beach, the little Honda Magna finally reached the long-awaited sea sand and felt the crunch of shells under its wheels.

Primorska beach in panorama Tired, but damn happy, I finally got there and fulfilled my childhood dream - to leave everything one summer day/night and rush to the sea on a motorcycle.

The locals built these stone dams every 500 meters on the beach. It looks beautiful and unusual.

Seeing the sea for the first time in 16 years of separation from it is an incomparable pleasure. it seems that there is simply no horizon and the sky merges with the water in the distance against the backdrop of the brilliant sun reflecting on the waves. By the way, the feeling of salt water pushing you out of the water is also incomparable.

Beach of the long-awaited sea. I arrived here, if memory serves, at 7:30 in the morning and the water was already warm. What I remember was that there were an awful lot of pensioners) - and I drove the Magna straight to this beach with my eyes reddened from the night road and the winds) It was a funny time - where did you come from, grandson? — From Kharkov — On this?? - Yes) - Ohoyoyoyoy... ))

Wind turbines of power plants are barely visible in the distance. The coastal climate is inexplicably different from ours, you can feel it in everything, even the sky is somehow different there. When you reach this pinkish hue of the sky on a motorcycle, you feel it especially acutely.

Melitopol. The atmosphere of this city is incomparable. The kindest and most welcoming city we've seen all the way. The movement is also pleasant, no one is in a hurry, no one cuts anyone off. Compared to Kharkov, the difference is phenomenal.

Why did I like Melitopol? Don't know. I just felt comfortable here. Perhaps because I felt the maritime climate, perhaps because of the traffic, perhaps because of the friendly people. But anyway, I remember this city for its bright streets filled with sun and kind, sympathetic people. And also, a strange moment, standing at a traffic light, on one of these streets, someone in a private house was preparing waffle cookies next to the road and children were playing in this yard. This moment transported me to our happy childhood of the 90s without the Internet and other bullshit, where there were real values and morals. Perhaps we are children raised on films of the 90s with the moral “I am the army”, in which the main character is a mega-cool, endures everything and everyone, and are repulsed “heroes” in the present, not afraid to just break away in the middle of the work week and go away from the city, from problems to nowhere, in search of adventure, knowing that on the road you will somehow cope with everything.

Happy and satisfied ending.:) I fulfilled a dream. I found the opportunity to find a motorcycle, found time for a trip to the sea, found the passion to drive 1025 km in two days in one go, and returned to life cheerfully. The best adventure of my life! For now. I'm sure there will be more!

How did you prepare the motorcycle, how did you prepare for the trip?

— The decision to travel to the sea was made at lunchtime on the first of two weekends, in the middle of the workweek. Putting on a leather jacket, I went into the entrance where I parked my Magna, before that I took the charger for my phone, my bag with the keys and drove off. — on the way out of Kharkov, I stopped at a store, bought a liter of 10w50 synthetic oil, drained the old one, and filled in 800 ml of new. and moved on

How much money did you spend?

— I forked out for synthetic oil.
A liter of Mobil 10w50 cost me 289 UAH (as of summer 2018). — The Honda Magna 50 consumes about 2.5 liters per 100 km, and with the throttle open to the floor along the highway it is about 3.5. Gasoline costs are about 800 UAH, calculating about 25 UAH per liter in 1992. There were 4 gas stations for a full tank of 8 liters per trip (32 liters * 25 UAH = ± 800 UAH) - a couple of rolls with kefir on the road to ATB cost me 25 UAH + water 15 UAH = 40 UAH food - tire service 40 UAH - TOTAL: 289+800+40+40= 1169 UAH ($43) (at the previous rate 1 $ = 27 UAH)

An adventure of a lifetime)

Estimated cost

Obviously, if you want to introduce your child to technology, teach him how to drive and give him positive emotions, you should pay attention to the Magna ATV 50 all-terrain vehicle, which is designed specifically for these purposes.
This is a very useful, safe and educational “toy” that will become an unforgettable surprise for your child, giving him the impressions of a true extreme rider.

You should also take into account the ease of maintenance of the machine and its low cost .

Thus, this model can be purchased from official dealers at a price of 40,000 rubles. If you want to save money, you should look for Magna 50 on the secondary market, where they charge from 25,000 rubles for a used ATV.

Do you need to look for the best gift for your beloved child who is interested in motorcycles?

A large, comfortable drine with a dry weight of 200-250 kg, capable of moving office plankton during vacation or retirement over fairly long distances with the comfort and speed of a good convertible. An example is the Honda Silver Wing 600.
