BMW R1250RT 2021 presented with active cruise control (73 photos)
As usual, autumn is the time of premieres, and following the new Italian Ducati Multistrada V4, the German vision for asphalt tourism was shown and the updated BMW R1250RT 2021 model year was presented.
The new product is traditionally equipped with a 1254 cm³ opposed 2-cylinder engine with ShiftCam technology, which develops 100 kW (136 hp) at 7,750 rpm and 143 Nm at 6,250 rpm and fully complies with the new Euro environmental standards -5. Technically, the new RT has not changed much, but the basic equipment has become richer.
Already out of the box you will immediately receive three driving modes, including a new economical and environmentally friendly Eco mode, Dynamic Traction Control DTC, Full Integral ABS Pro, a new instrument panel with a 10.25″ diagonal TFT color screen and integrated navigation, fully LED optics and much more, although there are also a lot of paid options.
Despite the fact that the new BMW R1250RT 2021 is also available with active cruise control (ACC), it still cannot keep up with the Italians, because the system is implemented using only one active radar, which monitors traffic conditions only in the front.
The ACC system is the next stage in the development of an intelligent system for maintaining the selected speed. Thanks to the installation of a radar to control the distance to the vehicle ahead, the speed of movement is automatically adapted: the motorcycle will reduce speed when this distance is reduced and increase when the flow accelerates.
The option is, of course, good, but we have never been supporters of such systems on motorcycles, because even a regular “cruise” greatly relaxes and reduces the concentration of the rider, which is simply unsafe on our roads.
Well, okay, let's get back to the new product. As we can see, the 2021 BMW R1250RT has received a new look, which once again confirms the theory that BMW is underpaying its designers! It looks not like a premium German product, but like a Japanese mass market product, which, of course, is very sad...
The motorcycle received a new headlight, which has become fully LED and can optionally illuminate corners, and the new fairing has become more compact, which has expanded the field of vision for the rider.
In addition, thanks to high-quality purging in the wind tunnel, the Bavarians managed to reduce the drag coefficient and increase acoustic comfort for both driver and passenger.
As an option, the 2021 R 1250 RT can be equipped with the Pro package with an expanded list of riding modes and a manually adjustable User mode. Another option in the Pro package is engine braking intensity adjustment (MSR), which helps prevent the rear wheel from locking up when braking before a turn while downshifting multiple gears.
I would like to pay special attention to the instrument panel. It is equipped with a 10.25″ TFT color screen and has finally integrated a navigation system. She looks very good, and we are sure that there are hardly anyone who will not like her!
The price of the BMW R1250RT 2021 for the Russian market has not yet been announced, but it can be assumed that it will start at 1.6 million rubles for the basic configuration.
The motorcycle will be produced in four colors: the base one - Alpine White 3 and three additional colors for which you will have to pay extra - Elegance, Sport and Option 719.

BMW R1250RS chassis
If the engine is the heart of a motorcycle, then the chassis is the body, and the soul is its character and temperament. The BMW R1250RS is a pure sportbike in character. Not a supersport like its brother BMW S1000RR, but a serious projectile, by the will of fate allowed on the roads, with comfortable neutral ergonomics for long trips. It doesn't steer too fast, but it handles very well, and the brakes—two floating discs with four-piston radial calipers at the front and one disc with a two-piston caliper at the rear—provide excellent control over the motorcycle.
The 243 kilograms of curb weight of the BMW R1250RS are practically not felt while driving. And the narrow seat height of 82 cm allows a 175 cm tall rider to stand with both feet freely. The 153 cm wheelbase, 43-inch inverted telescopic fork and cast aluminum swingarm with Paralever suspension provide absolute directional stability both on straights and in corners.
Yes, this is a motorcycle with a Bavarian character - dry and pedantic, and some may find it boring. But BMW knows how to make real German motorcycles - and once again proves it. And the only question is how your BMW R1250RS should be equipped - like a cheerful dad on a jog or like a sprinter going for a record.

When I returned the BMW R1250RS, I was also shown the new BMW R1250R naked road bike on the same platform.

Do you know the stupid feeling when, shortly after marriage, you meet a damn attractive, smart and completely free girl? I hope not... But if so, then you understand what I experienced when I rode the R. If I had been given a choice right away, I would have chosen it without a moment's hesitation - beautiful, trendy, fast, fun and much more versatile BMW R1250R.
What a bike! All the benefits of the BMW R1250RS I mentioned, but in a more classic form, with a more relaxed upright riding position. I rode a particularly stylish version, the new "Option 17 Spezial" with a cool bronze metallic paint job and a brown stitched seat.
