This year a more powerful version of Dorsoduro will go on sale than the previously existing one. Until this year, there was a version with an engine whose displacement was 749.9 cm3. This season, dealers will have a 1200 cc version with 130 hp.
It is no secret that in this class today there is a rather complex positional war between different manufacturers. Who will win whom in the end is not very clear, because... many motorcycles already have good popularity, and some are generally an admirer of only one brand and will even buy a “losing” model, but “their own”. Therefore, going into discussions about “whether an elephant will win a whale or a whale will defeat an elephant” is completely pointless; it’s better to see what Aprilia has prepared for its fans. Let's start with the engine. The working volume is 1197 cubic meters, the power is 130 hp. at 8700 min-1, thrust - 115 Nm at 7200 min-1. Quite enough for a motorcycle designed for urban adventures and highway rides.
The engine, like the previous model, has two cylinders with a 90-degree camber, which, in principle, has long been an Aprilia feature. In addition, it has two camshafts and four valves per cylinder. Such a motor turns out to be well balanced and high-torque.

Fuel supply is injection, which works in conjunction with a rather complex ignition system. Instead of a throttle cable, which has been considered an anachronism for quite some time, a modern wired Ride by Wire system is used, which has three operating options - Sport (S), Touring (T) and Rain (R). Those. it is possible to change the throttle response to driver actions, which is convenient under different driving conditions, for example, when driving in the mountains, on slippery roads, etc. Switch to the desired mode and live in peace...
For greater safety, the Dorsoduro 1200 has traction control (ATC) and ABS. Traction control allows you to twist the throttle relatively carelessly and look like a real ace on the road (of course, you need to really handle the motorcycle well), while ABS will provide quick deceleration without loss of controllability and grip of the rubber on the road surface. ATC has three levels: 1 - “extreme”, which, as written in advertising brochures, is designed to release large doses of adrenaline and immense pleasure from driving a motorcycle; 2 - for complete control over steering and 3 - for slippery surfaces, in case level 2 does not help.
The most interesting thing, and probably most important for many, is that these two systems can be turned off completely. Perhaps someone likes to ride without supports in the form of the above-mentioned systems and feel like a real macho, and not a boy in diapers. But this, of course, is “optional”, because... a powerful engine will not let you relax even with the systems on...

For greater confidence, Aprilia equipped the Dorsoduro with suspensions with progressive characteristics that allow it to cope well with the vagaries of city traffic - fast acceleration and sharp braking, as well as if you want to test yourself and the motorcycle for strength, overcoming curbs and other obstacles that can be found not only in urban areas. slums, but also in elite areas.
The 43mm Sachs inverted front fork has all the presets you need and handles shock well, delivering 160mm of front wheel travel.
The rear suspension was also not without the participation of Sachs and has a travel of 155 mm. For a motard, such travels of the front and rear suspensions are considered normal today and allow you to use almost the full potential of the motorcycle when riding in difficult conditions.

And finally, the appearance. Today this look can already be called quite standard, because we are already accustomed to the Dorsoduro 750. The new 1.2-liter brother almost completely follows its outline. Whether they are pleasant to someone or not is not for us to judge, we can only say that compared to most motorcycles in this class, the Dorsoduro 1200 looks extraordinary and is memorable almost immediately. The giblets sticking out are a trademark that denotes the position of designers and engineers: we are not hiding anything - look and enjoy the high-tech.
And two words about universality, which was mentioned at the beginning. The Dorsoduro 1200 behaves excellently in the city, but at the same time it is not forbidden to take it on the highway. He conquers not only smooth asphalt roads, but also “unfavorable directions.” Of course, you can’t drive it off-road, but it will run very well on secondary roads, which is rare for most road and city motorcycles today.
