Snowmobiles "Taiga Bars-850": description, characteristics

The Taiga Bars 850 snowmobile has been produced by Russian Mechanics OJSC since 2010. This model is a modified version of the SWT Patrol, which was created under government order for Russian border guards and military personnel. The manufacturer has simplified the snowmobile, making its operation more understandable. Changes also affected the engine - Barca installed a German MPE 850 NA instead of a Chinese unit. The fuel tank has increased in size, so that without refueling, with a fuel consumption of 15-17 liters, you can travel over 300 km (the distance from Ufa to Naberezhnye Chelny, for example).

Design and equipment

In order to increase reliability and functionality, the Taiga 850 Bars is equipped with a reinforced gearbox. Because of it, the snowmobile becomes universal and can be used both for regular recreational driving and for towing various loads. You can drive the car either sitting or standing, since in both positions a person will be as comfortable as possible, which is due to the optimal height of the steering wheel.

The telescopic front suspension has a linkage system, which helps dampen various vibrations when driving on uneven surfaces. The high cross-country ability of the Bars is due to the wide 600-mm SWT (Super Wide Track) caterpillar track, which is supplied by NPO Composite. The skis are also quite large. They are manufactured by the famous company Camoplast.

The snow car is equipped with a comfortable double seat, a removable backrest, passenger handles, and a new modern dashboard. The design of the Taiga 850 Bars is restrained and even a little harsh.

If we talk about the disadvantages that owners often write about in reviews, it is worth noting the massiveness of the rear part of the structure. Because of this, the snowmobile is prone to skidding when braking. To prevent it, the driver has to stand up, pressing on the front with his weight.

Owner reviews

  1. Andrey from Yakutsk believes that this model of snowmobile turned out to be very reliable. I owned the snowmobile for three years, Andrey writes in his review, of course there were breakdowns, but mostly minor ones that were quickly fixed. Judging by the spare parts, their prices are quite affordable. Andrei drove it more than once, far from home, and at the same time returned home without any problems! In general, Andrey believes that the technology turned out to be very reliable.
  2. Vitaly from the Perm region especially notes the cross-country ability of the snowmobile. Vitaly also liked the engine on this vehicle, as it turned out to be very practical and pulls well, even with a load. True, he had problems with the variator, namely noise, but after repair everything worked! Time will tell, says Vitaly, but for now he is satisfied with his technique.
  3. Dmitry from Kirov has been riding a snowmobile for two seasons now and is also happy with the snowmobile so far. Dmitry notes that the snowmobile quickly picks up speed and pulls well. True, there is one thing he would like to improve – high fuel consumption. It's too noticeable.

Engine

The Bars 850 snowmobile is equipped with a four-stroke power unit of the MPE-850NA brand, which is a development of the German manufacturer WEBER. The engine block contains two cylinders, each with a diameter of 89 mm. The piston stroke is 68 mm. The total working volume is 846 cubic meters. The rated output power reaches 58.84 kW (80 horsepower). Liquid cooling system.

Appearance of the snowmobile

The appearance of the Leopard 850 snowmobile turned out to be very attractive. The wide and soft seat, designed for two people, is very comfortable when moving, the passenger's handles are located in a convenient place and add comfort when moving. The steering wheel is also high and comfortable - this helps you sit upright when driving, which facilitates long movements without experiencing inconvenience.

The set includes a backrest for the seat, but if desired, the backrest can be removed, which is a small plus. Many snowmobile users note that the instrument panel has become much more interesting, so to speak, more modern.

The Leopard 850 has an electronic speedometer, some people didn’t particularly like this innovation, since a large number of snowmobilers are accustomed to dial speedometers, but there is nothing fundamental here, it’s just a matter of taste, as they say, there are no friends according to taste and color.

Operation and repair manual

In general, the Bars 850 has received positive reviews from owners on the forums. If we talk about the disadvantages, then buyers note the high price (traditionally for Russians) and the heavy rear part of the snowmobile, which has a bad effect on handling when climbing a steep hill.

Refinement of the cooling system

During trial operation of the Bars 850 snowmobile on a new studded track with a lug of 30 mm, after a hundred kilometers the snow radiator was rubbed by the studs, which required unscheduled repairs. A new radiator was purchased, but before installation on the snowmobile, some modifications to the cooling system were made, because when operating the “Bars” snowmobile on groomed trails or in mountainous areas at low speed, an increase in the antifreeze temperature to critical values was noted.

A visual inspection of the new radiator (the old one is no different) in the front part of the radiator channels revealed the presence of deposits of welding material, which significantly block the flow of liquid.

Fittings with a diameter of 24 mm are smaller than the internal diameter of the supply hoses (25-26mm), so new fittings were made, with a diameter of 27 mm (probably it is necessary to make them with a diameter of 26 mm, but what has been done...). The old fittings were cut off, welding defects were cleaned, and new fittings were welded. In the rear part of the radiator there is a channel for the flow of coolant, but its cross-section, especially taking into account welding defects and the rectangular cross-section in plan, does not correspond to the throughput of the radiator channels. The rear edge of the radiator is cut off, the internal partition between the channels is cut by 80 mm.

It is difficult to rotate the channel in a circle, so the corners are cut at 45º C. Spacer plates are installed along the edge of the channel (a wire model is shown in the photo), which prevents the channel cross-section from being reduced due to welding sink marks in the material and eliminates internal weld defects that create resistance fluid flow.

The old radiator was modified and decided to be installed next to the main one. The second radiator additionally reduces the resistance to antifreeze flow and acts as a limiter, which prevents the track from pressing against the frame tunnel on the left and rubbing the side surface of the frame with its lugs.

The expansion tank is installed in aluminum, because it is easier to attach to it an additional fitting for the drainage pipe from the “air” radiator and a fitting of a smaller diameter to the intermediate pipe. In the event of damage to the “snow radiators,” it became possible to emergency restore the cooling system using one tube.

Revision results

  • On a test run on fresh snow about 15 cm thick at an ambient temperature of -5 to -1º C, bright sun, the total thickness of the snow cover is about 60-80 cm, when driving through a snow-covered field at a speed of about 40 km/h in second gear antifreeze temperature 80-82º C.
  • Winding uphill movement with a height difference of about 150 m at a distance of less than 1.5 km along your trail at a speed of about 8-15 km/h, first gear, the temperature gradually rose to 87-88º C, a similar movement on a snow-covered “buranica” - not above 82-84º C.
  • Uniform movement at a speed of about 40-50 km/h along a snow-covered “buranica” three kilometers long with a decrease of fifty meters - temperature 77-79º C.
  • Driving along a snow-covered “buranica” uphill, about a kilometer long with an increase of fifty to seventy meters – temperature 79-81º C.
  • When driving on a compacted road in first gear at a speed of less than ten kilometers per hour (test mileage is about eight kilometers), the temperature rises and remains about 91-93º C, the “air” radiator fan works almost constantly, but if you increase the speed, or switch to higher gear – the temperature decreases.

Motor

The Taiga Bars-850 snowmobile, the price of which exceeds half a million rubles when fully equipped, is equipped with an engine with an increased service life and a stable reliability indicator. Taking into account its impressive characteristics, the engine has a relatively low weight and low fuel consumption.

The cooling unit is an improved system, which allows the equipment to be operated in different climatic conditions. The exhaust system is equipped with an additional insulating layer to prevent overheating of the engine compartment. The electronic accelerator of the Taiga Bars-850 machine is an electronic gas trigger with the ability to accurately dose gasoline injection, without causing distortions and intermittent engine operation. This design has a positive effect on the duration of operation of the power plant without changing its initial parameters. A distinctive feature of the system is its soft functionality with a smooth acceleration, which is largely due to the correct setting of the trigger and electronic throttle.

Currently, you can purchase a new Taiga 850 Bars snowmobile at a cost ranging from 565 thousand rubles to 630 thousand Russian rubles. The price varies depending on the year of production and model configuration.

You can also buy a used car, however, in terms of cost, this option cannot be called cheap either. The price range of a used snowmobile is from 510 thousand rubles to 580 thousand Russian rubles. Here the cost is already affected by the year of production, equipment, general technical condition, number of kilometers traveled and number of engine hours worked.

It is worth noting that when purchasing/ordering new equipment, the manufacturer gives each client a 24-month warranty, which, in principle, is quite enough to identify faults, if, of course, they exist.
