BMW r1100rt Ferrari

Model class : tourist.

Years of production/sales: 1996-2001

The BMW R1100RT was first presented in September 1995 at the IAA as the successor to the BMW R100RT. Compared to its predecessor, the new model was radically different in technical aspects and appearance. Thus, the BMW R1100RT model received a new 1085 cc boxer engine. see, producing 90 hp. power (the BMW R100RT engine produced only 60 hp) and 95 Nm of torque. In addition, the model received proprietary Telelever and Paralever suspensions, as well as powerful 4-piston brakes with ABS as standard.

The BMW R1100RT model has gained enormous popularity in Europe and a number of positive reviews from motorcycle experts. The main advantage of the motorcycle is its handling, reliability and simplicity. Despite the substantial curb weight, the motorcycle handles and feels great, and the proprietary Telelever and Paralever suspensions effectively handle all road irregularities and allow you to cover long distances without getting tired.

Among the main disadvantages of the model, critics noted vibrations (the engine does not have balancer shafts), as well as the hard and noisy operation of the gearbox.

In general, the BMW R1100RT model is considered extremely successful and excellent for long-distance driving. This is facilitated by advanced wind protection, an adjustable seat and windshield, heated grips, airflow adjustments, an audio system, the ability to attach panniers and a number of other touring “bells and whistles”.

The BMW R1100RT model was produced until 2001, after which it was replaced by the BMW R1150RT. The motorcycle was produced only in Germany, and in total, from 1995 to 2001, 53,092 units were manufactured. It is also worth noting that at the same time as the BMW R1100RT, there was a “younger” version on the market - the BMW R850RT.

One of the users encouraged me to create such material.:) For anyone interested, please see cat. Don't expect any technical details from me about the design of this motorcycle, because most of us don't buy them to spend hours tinkering with the engine, tinkering with the gearbox, grinding in the valves, etc. and so on. Most people need to drive, drive around the city, on the highway, off-road. Yes, wherever you don’t have to go. You need to ride with convenience, comfort, or without it. I prefer the first one. Having ridden a SUZUKI VX800 for almost 4 seasons, I wanted more - more volume, more comfort, more roads... As a result, like the first one at the beginning of last year, through Sasha Sosnin (I don’t name the company - those interested can search on the Internet or consult with me ) I took it from Japanese 1998 BMW R1100RT auction. The mileage was approximately 34 thousand.

They removed it from the carriage in Achinsk, since the apparatus was heavy and there were a lot of people, and they removed it very well. The sheathing was already dismantled at home. There was no excitement, no drooling, no snot, because I understood that such a device was no joke, and a serious approach was needed.

As I already said, I won’t talk about technical features.:) Let me just say that if someone wants to get a bullet when buying an R1100RT, then don’t get your hopes up. This is a BAVARIAN, an unhurried, calm, measured, thinking burgher... If on the VX800, with a slight turn of the throttle, I got a kick in the butt (what can I do - the Japanese are as sharp as diarrhea), then here everything is measured, I would say with slight reluctance... I want to immediately Please note that all my arguments apply specifically to speeds above 100-110. When starting from an intersection, everything is fine. You can leave a trace of rubber on the asphalt.:) So let’s start demonstrating the comfort of this wonderful motorcycle, because the description of these features most often attracts the attention of people at festivals. 1. Those who like to load the device from the back, from the sides, and at the same time also buy a cute bag with magnets for fastening to the tank - BREAK OFF!!! There is nowhere to attach the magnets. Plastic, and under the plastic there is a plastic tank of 26 liters. Very big tank! If someone has more, don’t be shy.

2. Well, what can I say - there are no switches like on the Gold, neither more nor less. Exactly as much as needed. I would like to draw your attention to the rather thin steering handles. Considering they have heated grips built in and I have short fingers, I'm very pleased. I tried the installation of store-bought ones on the VX800 - it turned out not very comfortable due to the thickening of the handles. Mirrors are a separate issue, and a big, very big one: visibility is terrible. The dead zone is the largest. This is perhaps the most serious drawback of this motorcycle. After almost changing lanes several times into a car overtaking me, I placed a sphere on the left mirror. It didn't turn out so great, but it was still okay. There is the possibility of installing regular motor mirrors - there are holes in the levers for this, but I’ll probably make do. At the top is a rotating “choke” lever. Considering that the motorcycle has an injector, people were surprised why the enrichment was on it, but they made it clear to me that these were the first models of injectors that they came with. Well, be that as it may, it helps to start it in the morning. Then the symbols make it clear - the signal button - the signal is loud, very loud! the button is inconvenient - very inconvenient at first!; left turn switch (that’s right - on the behie the left one turns on on the left, the right one on the right; the yellow button - well, as usual, the light - low, high, and “blink”. More about the green button: windshield tilt control. Probably the most frequently used button by me , because I raise and lower the glass to the desired position often depending on the conditions, and the range is very large, which is confirmed by the photos below:

Well, if you look from the driver’s face (I’m short - 168 cm):

Wind protection at its best!!!:) I drive a Caberg Modus. With the window up, the helmet visor up, at 140 km/h I listen to music, and I can smoke if I smoked. There is a minus - when driving in heavy rain from the flow of water through the glass it is difficult to see - it has to be lowered - there is not enough wiper.:) Therefore, some things fly over your head, and some into your head. But the pants are always dry.

Let's move on to the next remote control and its associated equipment: Volume control and audio system frequency switch. What can I say - since the BMW system is from 1998, it only understands cassettes, but it also picks up the radio, and therefore I hacked up the cigarette lighter socket, the power to which is supplied with power to the radio, and stuck an FM modulator there, a 4 gig flash drive, and I enjoy the music. The only radio we caught in Abakan was LoveRadio, which greatly amused the woman I loved :). By the way, I want to say, the motorcycle does not have containers for small items. Somewhat annoying. Therefore, under the rags I use the radio compartment, which is enough to put a rag there.

3. Right remote control: Well, everything is according to the standard: the red lever is the so-called “motor stop”, and why does it work if you turn it both to the right and to the left, well, what can I say - the Germans also think about the left ones. :); green button - starting the starter - at first it was unusual, but over time it returned to normal; and the continuation of the highlight - the right turn switch, and above it - the turn switch in general - it took an awfully long time to get used to it, just awful. Turns off by moving your right thumb up. I got used to it no sooner than after a couple of months. Even my finger seemed to be getting tired. :).

4. Instrument panel from left to right :): Left mirror with the sphere mentioned just above :);:) the grille covers the left speaker; at the top there is a non-standard connector, which it would seem logical to make for a standard cigarette lighter, but the Germans are smart people, and it is made narrow. You can find an adapter, but somehow you can’t get around to it. The same one is located under the passenger's left foot. As knowledgeable people explained, this is for electrically heated clothing that smart Bavarians produce for their drivers and their passengers. Service, you flamboyant harrier! The toggle switch, which no one really told me anything about before the purchase, turned out to be a radio switch. It's simple - up is off, down is on. The bottom row is a three-position control for heating the handles.:) Moreover, it was done somewhat non-standardly (at least for me) - the middle position is off, up - 100%, down 50%. But turning on 100% is very difficult to detect - you need to press the switch quite hard, and it turns out to be “recessed”, and for the first time you are afraid to press hard. That’s why I didn’t notice it right away - everything seemed to be heating poorly. The emergency light switch is understandable. In our realities, I would take it somewhere closer, since I often use it to blink the emergency lights to thank the driver who let me through - I have to reach out. Next is the toggle switch connected to ABS. I don’t know how it works, I haven’t clicked it, haven’t used it. ABS works fine anyway. Here I want to say right away: the ABS of this motorcycle has a number of features - firstly, it does not start if the battery is weak; secondly, the ABS starts up with an intermittent clanging sound. At first I was frightened by this sound, I looked for what it was clanging. But again, universal reason suggested that this is how it should be and this is normal.

Everything is stock here: tachometer, speedometer, daily mileage reset, and a row of lights - left turn, generator lamp, high beam, tank reserve lamp (bright as the Kremlin stars - you can immediately see when opa):) , neutral, ABS start buttons (they blink alternately if it does not start), oil pressure light, right turn.:) On the left you can see a toggle switch, which was slobbered by a caring Japanese man. The peculiarity of the motorcycle (many people also have this) is that when you turn the ignition key, the headlights immediately turn on. Like the Japanese, I don’t think it’s very good when the battery is also consumed by the headlight. So he installed the headlight switch, and so that I wouldn’t forget that my lights were off, the high beam light glowed with an inviting bright blue light until I started the engine and clicked it in the opposite direction.

Right side: LCD display indicating the engine temperature (it reached the red zone only once, when I was stuck in traffic jams in Novosib);:) fuel level indicator (very informative, shows very accurately); in the square window it shows which gear is engaged (zero - if neutral );:) Well, and a clock (with a 24-hour format, which is very nice, but they could have set it to 12. ).:) Behind the bars is the right speaker.

5. Amenities include heating the driver: It must be said that the heating is very sensitive - the air passing through the oil tank passes through the pipes and enters the driver through the holes. It swirls up to the steering wheel. The other day I rode a little without gloves and felt the warm air. But at the same time, they also overlap, so in hot weather there will be no excess heating. This is climate control. :)

This is such a massive handle... An irreplaceable thing when you are trying to put a motorcycle on the center stand, simply irreplaceable. Load 300 kg. It’s not very nice when there’s nothing to grab hold of from behind, but here you have such a lever.

Here are the three driver seat positions. For the city I use the lowest position, and for long-distance travel I set it to the middle position. The difference seems to be small, but sensitive.

Here, under the plastic, is the rear shock absorber adjuster: Mine from Japan was broken and oil flew in clumps or clumps.:) I ordered it on eBay, it arrived quickly, and with delivery it cost 6,000 rubles.:) It was in like new condition and works like new.

The cantilever mounting of the rear wheel allows it to be easily removed to replace the tires. The muffler doesn't interfere. .

I just remembered - one of the features is that if I put the motorcycle on the center stand on a flat surface, then the weight distribution of the motorcycle and the design of the center stand are such that the entire motorcycle stands on the stand, and both wheels are in the air, not touching the floor surface, and to remove one of the wheels, you do not need to additionally “support” the motorcycle. You can see part of the center step here.

There is quite a lot of space behind the passenger airbag: a rolled up tool kit and a rain cover can easily fit there. But to get there, you need to turn the key in the lock under the brake light, it’s incredibly inconvenient:

The central case is simply huge: it includes a helmet and a bunch of other things.:) In general, he also carried a watermelon in it.:)

There is a flaw due to which I lost the right side case. The fastening there is somehow clumsily designed. I say this because one of my colleagues also had the fastening of the right case burst, but he noticed in time, but I lost mine. Therefore, at the same time I appeal to the readers: maybe someone has the right case lying around. Well, it happens in different ways - an accident, loss, etc. and so on. In general it is necessary. :)

Followed by a couple more photos: In the last photo, it’s not a tin can, but a water tower that’s in the frame. :)

BMW r1100rt Ferrari

Motorcycle BMW r1100rt, 2000
Was purchased in 2012. At the time of purchase it had 70 thousand mileage. Before him, I only rode 70 cc Aprilia replica mopeds and scoops. When they came for him and started him up... My self-control dropped somewhat... I was only 16 years old! . But they bought it anyway. They brought us home on a gazelle. In appearance everything was fine. The motorcycle was originally cherry color, I already repainted it in Ferrari color, yes, that’s exactly their color. The next day I got used to it, sat, got acquainted with the controls, etc. Such power made my head spin). The next morning I got up at 6 am, summer, sun, soul singing. Overcoming fear. I sat down, started it, and opened the gate. ii…. Let's go! Such a catch was heart-stopping! In general, after a week I was already driving it freely and nothing had happened. I was happy . I drove it for a season until October and still went to school in the fall. Among the breakdowns, the clutch cable just broke (as it later turned out this was his curse... After 300 km, his original cables break for 2000 rubles. But a garden ordinary cable does not break.) And the battery died. In winter 12-13 years. They removed the plastic from it and sent it for painting. And the motor itself was loaded and taken 500 km to Moscow to the Motorrad center so that they could look at it. There they examined it, changed the oils, the clutch cable (which later broke again and was again replaced with a garden cable), diagnostics, pumped the brakes, and bled the pads. They installed BI-xenon. I still don’t really understand why they paid about 50 thousand... Well, God bless them. Then I learned how to do it myself, and then I found people closer to me who knew how to do it. Well, they brought it, waited for the warmth, took away the plastic, assembled it, changed the rear and front cylinder. Replaced front and rear brake discs. The rear one is new, the front ones are used but in excellent condition. And so He burns. BMW - Ferrari. He was really handsome. Everyone looked at him. Well, the happy season has begun. I rode and did not know grief. Then, near August, somewhere the suction cable got stuck and he turned off the gas with it (it is injector). I had to rip apart the floor of the moto and get to this cable. We got there and released him. It was possible to drive but there was no suction. After that, he began to work differently, the synchronization began, and he could shoot. Work has become worse. I took it to some proshnygs. To synchronize with this garbage. They didn’t do anything special, but it got better. They said that either the position sensor or the dampers were faulty. Well, I rolled on like this again until the first frost. Already at the beginning of autumn, the clutch began to die. It was slipping more and more. But he didn’t let me down, still in pain, he took me from point A to point B in the rain and even snow. Winter came, I installed it. Then the season came.. I did nothing. The Boomer was still shabby and should not have been driven properly. But I started it and took it for a ride with the girl maybe 10 times. The fork was leaking. The clutch was already at its limit. the rear balloon was worn down to the cord due to the flat tire and my starts. It was necessary to change the oils. And I put it to rest with great sadness in May.. There was already a car and another spendthrift made it. There was something to ride. But still, Boomer is Boomer. Summer, autumn, winter passed. Boomer stood for almost a year. I decided to start it in March. The battery went to zero, charged. And lo and behold. He got wound up, I heard that it was difficult for him to work, but there was still a lot of dope. And then I collected money, took him to a familiar master - golden hands. Analysis showed that the disk was erased and the rest was still in excellent condition. I bought the Disc (original). Fork seals and boot. They brought it. Today (04/29/2015) I gave it to the master. Collects. left to Buy Oil, pads, Rear cylinder. speedometer cable. I think by the summer we will be reunited with him again.
