The series did not appear today, but this fall everyone is offered a snowmobile equipped not only with the well-known engine with a displacement of 1300 cubic meters, but also with a V-800 engine. Last season, snowmobiles equipped with a V-800 engine, of course, manufactured by Rotax, sold well not only in America, but also in Russia. What is the appeal of these cars? The first and probably most important thing is their capabilities. The second is reliability. Third... What, the first two points are not enough?

Let's look in detail, or, as they say in the army, “by division.” Both the V-1300 and V-800 equipped sleds are based on the Yeti II platform. Ski-Doo fans have been familiar with Yeti for several years and know almost everything about it. Everyone knows the strength and durability of this chassis, and the fact that, despite all these advantages, it is far from the heaviest in the snowmobile industry. The width of the track is 50 cm, which is the limit for many manufacturers, but for BRP this size is transitional, since there is also SWT, that is, “super wide track”, with a width of more than 60 cm.

The power of the V-1300 engine is a little over 100 hp, the power of the V-800 is 65 hp. Is it a lot or a little? Considering that these engines are 4-stroke, most likely a lot, since, unlike 2-stroke engines, four-stroke engines have more constant thrust over a larger rpm range. At the same time, 4-stroke engines behave more stably under load, and in general, in many respects, they are more pleasant both to operate and to maintain. Both the V-1300 and V-800 are equipped with electronic fuel injection, making them easy to start in any weather and at any atmospheric pressure. I hope the hint of trouble-free operation in the mountains is clear.

The Expedition V-1300 and V-800 haul trailers well, aided by generous lugs that are about 32 mm (1.25 inches) high. The ability to quickly transform the modular seat allows, by removing the passenger part, to conveniently place a large amount of cargo on the snowmobile itself.

In short, the Expedition is perfectly prepared for extreme outings into nature far from the centers of civilization and will be able to serve well hunters and fishermen who prefer to do what they love in difficult conditions. However, not only this category of lovers of long-term adrenaline rushes is interested in such snowmobiles. Fans of tourism in untouched virgin lands, and there are quite a few of them, also pay tribute to Expedition, which, in principle, corresponds to the name of the series.

Under the bottom of the snowmobile there is a hole of approx. dia. 40 mm, and behind it the oil drain plug from the engine - a 12 mm hex key. I fill the oil with Motul synthetic 40

2014 Ski-Doo MXZ X-RS Review

A serious machine for tough Ski-Doo snowmobile drivers

Powered by a 600cc Rotax E-TEC engine, the 2014 Ski-Doo MXZ X-RS gives slope-goers the feel of a racing sled, even if it's not exactly one. But he is very close. Real Ski-Doo MX Zx 600RS racing snowmobiles were raced on tracks in 2012-2013. The 2014 X-RS recreates that experience for drivers in the 2013-2014 season, while Ski-Doo's race-ready vehicle evolves into a new season. But fear not, X-RS owners won't be left out.

When we say this supposed 2014 racer takes to the snow with serious intentions, consider the following:

The MXZ X-RS 800 combines the power of an E-TEC engine and fuel economy with the handling of a racing sled.

  • Racing chassis
  • Forward tilted steering column
  • rMotion rear suspension
  • Extremely durable racing shock absorbers
  • Bimbo racing brakes
  • Steel brake line
  • Racing skis

Last year's Zx 600RS brought an improved version of the 2013 XS platform to the race track. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say that the racing sled has adapted the XS's "smooth" body style and chassis to meet racing needs. Call it what you will, but the limited-production 2014 X-RS has a similar mission, but on rougher terrain. This sophisticated sled features the chassis enhancements typical of racing models to help withstand brutal, high-speed bump-to-bump rides that will leave spectators in awe. The footpegs are also much wider and stronger.

The fluid design of the body emphasizes the similarity of the X-RS with the XS platform.

If you've ever watched a snocross competition, you've probably marveled at how deftly riders can turn into turns while standing. The steering column, which is strongly tilted forward, helps them in this. But few stand-up riders will ride in this position all the time, so Ski-Doo engineers decided to install the aluminum handlebars a little further back, two inches. It's still a more aggressive stance than the standard MXZ, so a determined driver can react quickly to a sudden pothole ahead.

If you look at Ski-Doo's history, you'll notice that the company has often taken racing cars off the track. The first TNT models evolved from racing sleds in the late 1960s before being replaced by Blizzards in the 70s. This whole idea of "copying" racing models has been around for decades, and Ski-Doo does it very well. By 2006, even the air-cooled MXZ 500 was released in pseudo-racing design, overseen by Ski-Doo racer Blair Morgan.

The hook-shaped curves at the end of the handlebars add aggressive steering when cornering.

Key differences between that 2006 racer and today's MXZ X-RS

lie in functionality. Inside our hero beats the heart of a racer - a 2-stroke engine with a volume of 594.4 cc. see, direct descendant of the racing model. For greater convenience and daily use, the engine is equipped with an electric starter, which a racer would not install. But this is more convenient, although the E-TEC engine goes very well with a manual starter.

The Rotax E-TEC is, in our opinion, one of the most iconic designs in the snowmobile industry. Just when everyone (except Ski-Doo and Rotax engineers) decided that the future of snowmobiles was forever tied to 4-stroke engines, the guys from Ski-Doo/Rotax introduced their 2-stroke direct injection engines. This allowed dedicated 2-stroke fans to continue riding these lighter configurations, which at the same time could emulate the 4-stroke in terms of economy and environmental friendliness. Of course, we all know that Ski-Doo and Rotax also made 4-stroke engines. But the real reason MXZ sales are strong is that those who appreciate the benefits of 2-stroke solutions can enjoy them without worrying about the environmental impact. Ski-Doo says the 600 E-TEC can deliver up to 21 miles per gallon of fuel. Of course, this won't bother the tough MXZ X-RS

.

Heavy-duty KYB Pro 40 shocks come standard and feature a 22-position adjuster for quick suspension adjustments.

From such a machine, the driver primarily expects controllability at the level of a racing snowmobile and a dashing ride on uneven roads. The X-RS meets these demands with brutal KYB racing shock absorbers designed to handle one bump after another with little to no consequence. Top combined shock absorbers

The KYB PRO 40 boasts incredible stability coupled with extensive customization options. The suspension can be adjusted using 22 available positions. This shock kit complements Ski-Doo double wishbones perfectly.

As you'd expect, the rear suspension on the X-RS is rMotion.

with the same shock absorbers from KYB. In any other case we wouldn't spend the money on installing an external Quick Adjust system, but in this case it's worth it! As an X-RS owner, you'll find yourself playing around with the suspension settings quite often. With skid-mounted shocks this is easy with external adjusters, but without installing such a system on the rMotion, adjusting the rear suspension will be a challenge. Plus, since these KYB shocks are similar to the Walker Evans solutions found on top Polaris models, you'll want the same, if not better, level of adjustability.

Since drivers will want to quickly change rear suspension settings, we recommend installing the 'Quick Adjust' system on rMotion.

While we're often big fans of set-it-and-forget-it configurations, drivers want something different with the X-RS. Taking a snowmobile to its maximum level of performance is part of the fun of owning it; a wide range of suspension and handling settings is one of the main arguments for purchasing this model.

Think of this snowmobile as a big, well-built toy for big boys. If the power of the 600 cc engine is not enough for you, you can spend a thousand dollars more and get the 800 cc E-TEC option. If you look at the characteristics, it becomes obvious that this expense is worth it, considering that 164 hp. will carry nearly 20 pounds less than the 600 E-TEC. The X-RS 800 is not equipped with an electric starter, which gives the snowmobile better engine power-to-weight ratio. We're not math professors, but our residual knowledge leads us to conclude that the 600's specific engine power is 4.01 pounds per horsepower, and the 800's is 2.83. This is 40 hp. more and 20 pounds less!

It is recommended to refuel the Ski-Doo X-RS with high-quality 91 gasoline. Pay attention to the overflow protection on the lid.

If we were far from retirement age, single and free from everything, the Ski-Doo MXZ X-RS would satisfy all our needs. But our heady Z-series sporting days are behind us; we know that our knees and backs will not endure long-term abuse and landings after a triple, or even a double jump into a roadside ditch! If it were different, this would be a desirable snowmobile.

The seat goes very well with the forward-leaning handlebars and wide footrests. Well, there’s even a place nearby to store things – not much of it, but still! The hand and thumb warmer controls are now more similar to their Yamaha counterparts with their alternating action. And please also check out the carbon finish on the multifunctional dashboard!

Ski-Doo designers are very talented when it comes to finishing their products. An example of this is the carbon-effect dashboard trim.

Overall, while the 2014 Ski-Doo MXZ X-RS isn't a 100% race sled, we think it's even better. With it you can play around with the settings to your heart’s content: adjust the front and rear suspension to almost any conditions, even every day. Customize your steering wheel. And rest assured, the sled will handle any bumps with confidence thanks to its well-engineered performance and balance. If you're a serious rider who wants to jump over bumps, take tight turns, and frolic through rough terrain, you'll want to consider the 2014 Ski-Doo MXZ X-RS snowmobile.

Suspension and handling

One of the most notable new additions to the 2015 Renagade is the RAS2 front suspension. This is not just an advertising slogan. This is a significant improvement that perfectly complements the rMotion rear suspension and significantly improves the snowmobile's handling in all types of snow. The suspension features all-new suspension geometry, lightweight components and, in the case of the XRS, KYB Pro 40 compression-adjustable racing shock absorbers. Who would have thought that a new front suspension could improve the ride of all snowmobiles that use it so much?

When it comes to performance sleds, the key considerations are power, suspension and handling. Comfort and convenience are, of course, important for such a model with a racing heritage, but not in the first place. Still, the Renegade XRS features a stylish, narrow REV-XP X seat that lets you get up and down while riding. There is a small storage space under the seat along with a glove compartment.

When it comes to styling, the XRS is a real eye-catcher with its bright yellow-orange color scheme and racing-car-like lettering. The hand guards on the handlebars are made of transparent material and provide excellent protection from wind and branches. The snowmobile has a multifunctional instrument panel with a customizable three-zone LCD display. An optional electric starter is available, and Ski-Doo's renowned Rotax Electronic Reverse is standard. Of course, there are plenty of accessories available for a sled, but would you want to add weight to a racing sled that's built on the motto "less pounds, more power"?

With the arrival of the Polaris AXYS and Pro-X snowmobiles on the market, the new 2015 Ski-Doo Renegade XRS 800 may not get the attention it deserves. But know that this is a worthy representative of the family of powerful crossovers, which feels confident even on the biggest bumps and snowdrifts, especially with the new RAS2 suspension. The Ski-Doo Renegade XRS 800 is definitely a success. However, keep in mind that this is a really serious sled.

The Skido Scandic V800 4-TEC snowmobile is equipped with an updated gasoline engine with a displacement of 800 cc. cm. Engine power is 65 horsepower. An EFI fuel injection system replaces the legacy carburetor system. Its advantages include better fuel efficiency with more power, as well as high environmental friendliness and compliance with modern standards. The modern four-stroke layout also helps reduce gasoline consumption. The ventilation system is liquid cooling, which prevents overheating of internal combustion engine components at relatively high ambient temperatures.
