Bajaj avenger 220 owner reviews

Comparison Features of the Bajaj Avenger 220 model - Is the quality really on par with KTM and Kawasaki, as Ukrainian dealers write about it?
Well, let's find out! I will make the first comparison regarding quality as a whole; this will be a kind of summary, albeit at the beginning. For those who trust the owner and not the lush advertising of the dealer (to whom it is important to sell), you don’t need to read further.

In all aspects, from all angles, I firmly declare, and by this I refute the dealer’s statements - there is no smell of Japan here! And even Korea! Korea is an attack on Japan that has not been refined to the smallest detail. Bajaj is a purebred China, on the level of Geon, Lifan (Possibly Zongshen) - with a distant aspiration to Korea - and this aspiration, I would say, is not entirely successful!

The motorcycle is upsetting not just in the little things, but in every little thing. Wiring, locks, shock absorbers, assembly, layout, thoughtful design, switches, turn signals, dimensions, headlight, fuel gauge - terrible Chinese quality.

But! Everything that is real from Bajaj is good quality. This is the engine, gearbox, brakes! The motorcycle does not have a paper oil filter, there is only a centrifugal filter, which must be cleaned every 2000 when changing the oil.

Now, step by step:

1. Carburetor. Friends, I can’t help but mention the carburetor! This is the last century, now all Badzhik motorcycles, including the Pulsar, have carburetors, which means you have to constantly jerk off with the throttle, and the motorcycle fully warms up for about 20 minutes, i.e. For me to have normal idle speed (1400-1500), I had to jerk off with the XX idle bolt. Since when warming up for 0-3 (5) minutes the damper is enough, then for 5-15 minutes the engine runs at the required 1400-1500, but then it starts to reach 2000. When it’s not very warm, it doesn’t start well, you need to jerk off with the throttle, not only with damper. Injector SOLVES ALL THIS GAMOR WITH THE PRESS OF ONE BUTTON! The injection motor starts up immediately, when cold it holds slightly higher revs, regulates itself, and accelerates smoothly. Now none of the normal manufacturers produce carbs.

2. The engine, I would say it’s a plus, is basically of good average quality. People wrote about 50,000 without capital, but with cleaning and changing high-quality oil every 2000. The only criticism for the Bajaj Avenger 220 is that the engine is not a chopper engine. And it's really funny! Well, who would put an engine from a sports road builder into a chopper? The bottom line is that choppers have long-stroke pistons, where the piston stroke is greater than its diameter, this gives good traction, especially at the bottom, this requires large crankshafts and balancing shafts in the engine. The Bajaj engine simply doesn’t feel like it runs below 4000. At 8500 it starts to choke, at 9000 rpm it dies somewhere. Good operating range 7-9 thousand rpm. To be honest, it looks funny when such a semi-chopp takes off on an equal footing with sports)) and their sound speed is similar.

Pros and cons of Bajaj Avenger Street 220

Advantages

  • Surprisingly good build quality, without untidy hanging wires, loose nuts and other shortcomings that owners of small-capacity bikes are accustomed to.
  • A spacious 14-liter gas tank combined with moderate appetites and undemanding quality of fuel.
  • Stylish appearance and comfortable fit.
  • Moderate weight - only 150 kg, and thanks to the low center of gravity, the motorcycle subjectively seems even lighter.
  • An informative dashboard that even warns of low battery levels.

Flaws

  • Rear drum brake instead of disc brake.
  • Reliable, but rather rigid and uninformative suspensions without any adjustments.
  • Centrifugal oil filter instead of disposable paper one. Quite a strange decision considering that the engine of the Bajaj Avenger Street 220 is quite well thought out.
  • Short service intervals.

Now it's time to change your Boxer to something newer and more powerful. Thanks to my old motorcycle friend for everything: I rode with him for almost three seasons, he was reliable, never let me down (tire punctures don’t count) and I could rely on him in any situation. It is still with me, the plans are to sell it.

The winds of change began to blow last year when the lack of top speed began to be acutely felt. I drive with the second number almost always and, as a rule, outside the city, so a confident cruise of 100-110 km/h on the highway without violence to the engine is very important, which was unattainable for the Boxer for technical reasons. Last summer I took the updated Bajaj Avenger 220 in the Cruise version for a two-hour test drive. The second number and I simply squealed with delight after the trip: the comfortable traction of the engine with two passengers, the normal maintenance of the above-mentioned cruising speed, good wind protection, a relaxed fit for both riders and a relaxed suspension won us over. In addition, based on the experience of using the previous motorcycle, I was confident in the reliability of the equipment of the specified manufacturer.

Therefore, when the opportunity arose to change the horse, I did not hesitate for long between used “Japanese” (Yamaha Drag Star 400, Honda Shadow 400, Honda Steed 400, etc.), which would be very ancient for the money I had, and new Bajaj. The option was to take the Bajaj Pulsar NS200 for a little more money, which is a little faster, more powerful and has more accessories, but we didn’t like the fit on it compared to the Avenger.

So, the choice is made, the motorcycle is purchased. Currently on temporary numbers - have not yet reached the police service center for registration. But I’ve already driven about 60 km around the city and beyond - I’ve started running it in. Yes, in Ukraine the weather at the end of February allows you to ride a motorcycle - there is a small “plus” outside the window and dry roads, and a large “windbreaker” saves you from the cold wind.

A little more detail about the Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise motorcycle itself (Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise) in numbers: engine - 220 cc. see, single-cylinder with 2 spark plugs (DTS-i technology for better combustion of the fuel mixture); power - 19 hp/8400 rpm; torque - 17.5 Nm/7000 rpm; dry weight - 159 kg; Gearbox - 5 gears; spoked wheels with tube tires; LED running lights; headlight - 55/60 W; brakes: front - single disc, rear - drum; Fuel tank volume - 13 liters.

What’s interesting: in India, when used, the frequency of its replacement is no less than 10,000 km!/images/smilies/eek.gif For motorcycles for export to Ukraine - 5,000 km due to the fact that in our significantly colder climate The use of thick branded oil 20w50 is not recommended by the manufacturer and the official service department, and without it the frequency of maintenance is halved. In Ukraine, they recommend using a thinner oil, for example, 10w40 or 10w50.

I run in, like all my motorcycles, strictly according to the instructions: I will throw up until the first thousand kilometers, no higher than 65 km/h, until the second thousand, no higher than 75 km/h. Everything is sad and long, but necessary. In May, I already plan to go on a new motorcycle to Turkey with the Ukrainian “Bajaj Club” to visit my Turkish teammates (Bajaj is a very popular brand in this country), so I will go out every day in dry weather in order to have time to fully test the equipment and pass THAT before the trip. I’m also now in the process of choosing side cases and frames for them.

What I would like to point out is the luxurious windbreaker! In the cold, its presence is especially pleasant - it completely cuts off the air flow from the upper body and partially from the helmet and knees (due to expansion at the bottom). And if on the Boxer at +10 I was already shaking from the cold with major tremors, and my knees were frozen to the bones, then I was surprised to note that at +3 I could safely ride. Yes, it’s cool, but you can live and your knees don’t get so cold.

In general, I will post all the information about the motorcycle and its operation in this topic and answer questions of interest. Welcome!

Distinctive features

In terms of comfort and convenience, the Indian bike will give a head start to any of its competitors:

  • low landing;
  • double soft seat;

BAJAJ Avenger street 220 DTS-i is a great model created to enjoy driving on the roads!

The feeling of being at one with the road comes when you ride the Avenger Street 220 with an engine that produces enough torque to dominate every stretch of road.

In 2021, the updated version of the Bajaj Avenger Street was launched. The changes mainly affected the appearance, namely:

  • digital instrument panel
  • led headlight
  • redesigned rear light

as well as some minor minor design changes. DTS-I A patented technology that has made Bajaj motorcycles, particularly the Avenger, the most popular motorcycle both on the road and under the watchful eye of competitors. At the heart of every Avenger is some of the most advanced engine technology ever created. DTS-i is a technological marvel. It combines a combination of two or three spark plugs, TRICS III ignition and throttle control and CDI to provide maximum performance with minimum fuel consumption and emissions levels.

TWO SPARK PLUGS Most ignition systems have a single spark plug. The flame front created by the spark requires some time for complete combustion of the working mixture. Because of this, combustion may occur slowly and not completely.

With Twin Spark, two spark plugs are fired at the same time. This process allows the mixture to ignite in every corner of the combustion chamber, resulting in complete and rapid combustion. The entire process is controlled by the DTS-i electronic system.

Reviews from Bajaj Avenger Cruise owners

Bajaj Avenger Cruise 2021

I drove the first 100 km on the Bajaj Avenger Cruise. Run-in: first 1000 - up to 65 km/h. I drove up to 80. The road is asphalt, wet and dirty in places. Temperature +10 degrees. The total weight on the motorcycle seat is 120 kg. Pros: comfortable to sit, stable in strong head and side winds (15 meters per second). Easily and clearly controlled. Low vibration at all speeds. The visibility in the mirrors is good. The brakes are clear. Splash protection is normal, only the shoes are slightly muddy. I ate a quarter of a tank per 100 km. The Bajaj Avenger Cruise looks quite decent. The suspension is close to ideal. Cons: no spoke key. The turn signal on the tank is almost invisible. You need to install a sound repeater or move the lamp to the speedometer. The shield blows the oncoming wind right into your eyes. No tachometer. The seat asks for a break after 100 km. After running in, you can judge whether the power is sufficient.

Advantages

: nice appearance. Almost perfect suspension. Torquey engine. Sensitive brakes. Review in the mirrors.

Flaws

: Spoke key missing. The turn signals on the tank are not visible. Wind shield. No tachometer.

Bajaj Avenger Cruise 2021

I own a Bajaj Avenger Cruise, I bought the motorcycle specifically for traveling on the highway. The bike is very convenient on the trails, it is quite comfortable and fast. But if you go off a smooth road onto rough terrain with potholes and rocks, you will get tired of such trips very quickly. Whenever big potholes appear, you can't stand up and let the bike work through those potholes. The blows are carried straight to the back. But as long as the roads are good, the Bajaj Avenger Cruise shouldn't have any problems. I have a motorcycle with a 220 cc engine. see, and apart from a few questions he has no problems. Maintain it on time, change oil, filters, brake pads, and it will reciprocate your feelings. This is a great choice for long trips.

Advantages

: wind protection. Comfortable seat. Controls. Landing. Engine. Suspension.

Flaws

: not convenient on roads with poor surfaces.

Bajaj Avenger Cruise 2021

Hi friends, I have a Bajaj Avenger Cruise which is just a year old. And here is my experience with it. This is an amazing all-around bike. I often make round trips from Chennai of about 250 km. I make such trips twice a day, it takes me a maximum of 5 hours. On the way, I make only one stop to rest a little and stretch my back. If you are having problems with your motorcycle's suspension on bad roads, simply ask your mechanic to adjust it. Be careful when braking on gravel surfaces - the motorcycle tends to fall on its side. If you are good with technology, you will be rewarded with brilliant performance and the Bajaj Avenger Cruise requires little to no extra maintenance. Another good thing about the Bajaj Avenger Cruise is that it doesn't have too many plastic parts and you don't have to cry and shell out thousands every time you crash/break/scratch your bike.

Advantages

: windshield. Comfort. Moderately powerful engine. Nice design. Ergonomics. Minimum plastic parts.

Flaws

: not noticed.

Bajaj Avenger Cruise 2021

First impressions. The headlight is amazing - Bajaj Avenger Cruise ensures that the moment you turn on the light, you get adequate visibility. In most cases, low beam is sufficient. Gear changes are as smooth as butter. Shifting without a clutch is also possible, it just takes a little practice. The seat is not the best thing about the Bajaj Avenger Cruise. When the temperature outside is high and you are wearing jeans and sitting on a seat, then expect a lot of pain. Also, the signature seat on the Bajaj Avenger Cruise is small and narrow for larger pilots. If a person with a huge belly sits behind you, the rider begins to feel overloaded. The shock absorbers are pretty cool. The pilot feels only unpleasant impacts sometimes, but the suspension handles all the irregularities very well. The Bajaj Avenger Cruise is a heavy bike. You can't move it around easily, especially in the city. But on the highway it is very comfortable.

Bajaj Avenger Cruise 2021

I will write my impressions of owning a Bajaj Avenger Cruise. Positive: Stylish and distinctive appearance. Stands out from the crowd. Comfortable seat and pleasant upright driving position. Good for long trips. Powerful engine (currently 220 cc). Price-quality ratio. Negative: Lots of chrome parts that are prone to rust. Large mass, difficult to adjust in a parking space. Prone to skidding, despite wide tires.

What kind of animal is this

The phrase “Indian motorcycle” still sounds wild and does not inspire confidence for many. Let's first understand this phenomenon, and then continue about the device itself.

So, Bajaj is not only one of the largest in India, but also one of the three (!) largest motorcycle manufacturers in the world! The company's four factories produce about one and a half million units of motorcycles per year. More than a thousand motorcycles roll out of the Pune plant's four assembly lines every day. In two days, the plant produces more motorcycles than our country buys in a year! And this is not only those same “Bajajis”, but also the entire small-capacity KTM line - Duke and RC from 125 to 390 cc. Did you think you had an Austrian KTM? Ha! The motorcycle, which will be discussed below, and the same “red” Austrian are assembled on the same assembly line with the same hands! Well, in addition to this, the plant in Pune also produces Kawasaki motorcycles intended for the domestic market. So the quality of manufacturing, assembly and everything else is in perfect order here - no worse than in more “advertised” industrial countries. Bajaj plant

Speaking of Kawasaki, this is where our story will begin. As you know, the style of motorcycles with an abundance of chrome, long forks, horned handlebars and thick rear wheels was invented by American veterans after the Second World War. Adjusted for American characteristics - cheap gasoline, huge mileage of straight and spacious roads and a love for everything huge. This is how Harley-Davidson and Indian customs and cruisers appeared.

Article on the topic: Volvo s60 owner reviews disadvantages

A little later, having recovered from the shock of the war, Japan began to raise its industry by carefully copying everything “successful” in world practice with further re-interpretation in its own way. Of course, American motorcycles fall into this category. But the thrifty Japanese didn’t really like engines that cost one and a half liters, and in general, a different national flavor gradually led to the fact that the Japanese actually implemented a “reinvented” cruiser.

Ours also tried to invent a “cruiser”, but things didn’t go further than a couple of very poor industrial designs and countless garage tunings. Maybe it’s for the better, but it’s not about us now.

India has a very strong motorcycle tradition. Here, a motorcycle is not a way of self-expression or a hobby, but a daily transport. The traffic density on the streets of Indian cities tends to unity, and the speed rarely exceeds 80 km/h. Therefore, the ideal Indian motorcycle is considered to be a lightweight device with a single-cylinder engine: a heavy “motorcycle” is inconvenient to move in dense slow traffic, a large volume is not needed due to the lack of need for dynamics as such, but fuel economy is a priority. Therefore, the overwhelming percentage of the Indian motorcycle fleet are motorcycles from 100 to 200 cc.

But beauty is not alien to anyone, especially to the inhabitants of an ancient country - the cradle of civilization, therefore, in addition to the boring “just motorcycles” like roadside dust, the Bajaj company began producing a real chopper - the Avenger 220.

What does Kawasaki have to do with it? – a question may arise. However, only for those who are new to Japanese second-hand stores! Indian motorcycle builders decided that they had enough of “inventing” their vision of a cruiser - the Americans and the Japanese had already done it twice, so they simply took advantage of the old friendship with Kawasaki and borrowed from them the Kawasaki Eliminator, which was discontinued in 2010 and was previously produced at the Bajaj plant. Today, Kawasaki in some Asian countries sells a motorcycle jointly developed with Bajaj as the Kawasaki Avenger 220

Thus, we have a motorcycle inspired by America, designed by Japan and refined by India. American-Japanese-Indian

The Indians did nothing with the design, ergonomics and even the design of the chassis of the prototype. They just refreshed the colors a little and adjusted the motorcycle from the last century to modern safety requirements. They didn’t skimp on styling either - the motorcycle can be bought in two versions - classic, with spoked wheels, lots of chrome and varnish, and in the form of a “dregster”, with a low handlebar, matte color and alloy wheels. However, both motorcycles are identical in terms of performance characteristics.

An Indian disc brake is installed at the front; by the way, the same mechanisms are installed on all Indian-assembled KTMs. But at the back - “hello from the past”: a mechanically driven drum brake. But let’s not forget about the Indians’ love of economy and engine power: officially there are only 19 horsepower. The front brake is quite tenacious and predictable (it’s still a Brembo, no matter what), and the rear drum is quite enough for additional braking – tea, not a sportbike.

Article on the topic: Belomo juicer reviews from owners

It’s impossible to find fault with the ergonomics of the driver’s seat, just as it’s impossible to find fault with most “Japanese” cars. Everything has been verified and polished to perfection over decades of improvement. Moreover, even making allowances for the fact that this is a small-capacity vehicle that the Japanese made “for their own” short customers, even I, with a height of about 190, feel comfortable driving here. Of course, this is not a Golda, but my knees don’t rest against anything , and you don’t have to add up to three deaths. But for those for whom seat height is a decisive factor in choosing a motorcycle, this option may be one of the few. The saddle height here is 710 mm, and its light weight and width make it very attractive, for example, for young ladies who are just mastering two-wheeled equipment.

The high-torque single-cylinder engine snorts bassily at idle, and even at maximum speed it does not break into high notes. By the way, after this test, which, by the way, took place in India, I can safely assure all those who like to criticize air-cooled motors. Guys, even in Indian traffic jams in forty-degree heat, these engines do not overheat, and in our circumpolar latitudes it is impossible to do this, even if you want to.

On our roads?

OK OK! I have already admitted that I drove the Avenger on Indian roads, and not even on public roads, but on the factory training ground. However, this motorcycle needs to be suited to our roads. And I can say that he will “register” here very firmly and seriously.

For the second time, I got behind the wheel of a motorcycle with the letter “B” on the tank and again enjoyed the fact that under me was not a set of spare parts assembled together according to the “here the threads matched” principle, which is the fault of almost all products from Southeast Asia, but a full-fledged motorcycle. What else can you expect from a Japanese development, albeit a rather old one? The suspension of the vehicle is chopper-like soft and comfortable, the footpegs, as is typical for this class of motorcycle with a characteristic geometry, cling to the asphalt in corners noticeably before the grip reserves of the tires are exhausted, and the brakes have a fair amount of power and are completely transparent to the pilot. Even the rear “drum”.

The engine confidently propels you forward to new adventures – albeit not quickly, but it delivers its legitimate 130 km/h. How often do you have to drive faster? No, I’m not talking now about those guys who have less than a “liter” - not an engine, but less than 160 “horses” generally do not exist in nature. Nevertheless, in terms of the “cubic capacity” factor, Russia faces much more to the east than to the west – we sell many times more motorcycles with engines up to 500 cc than those with larger capacity. And for many motorcyclists, “kopeck piece” is not two hundred kilometers per hour, but consumption per hundred. Of course, the Avenger consumes a little more gasoline per hundred kilometers, but it’s close.

Article on the topic: Infiniti fx35 2007 owner reviews

There is no need to prove to anyone that the “Japanese” from the nineties are the most indestructible technology in the world. So the reliability of the Avenger will also be fine, which means that after a season or two the motorcycle will not lose much in value. This is not a “Chinese”, assembled from plasticine and aluminum foil, and after two years it is only suitable for being melted down into beer cans. I have seen a Bajaj with 87,000 km on Indian roads. Its owner said that the motorcycle was ten years old, and he had never climbed into the engine. Only scheduled maintenance (in the Indian understanding, this is, of course, not an official dealer and the cleanliness of the repair area, but “sometimes changing the oil right in the middle of the street” - Indians somehow don’t use garages). In short, phenomenal reliability.

Isn't this what is required from an inexpensive motorcycle? Let's multiply this by the specifics of our motorcycle movement. Most small-capacity equipment is either training equipment for the first one or two seasons for young people, or an unpretentious device for many years for the older generation. Both Avengers will come in handy. Especially considering the price/quality ratio.

YOU NEED A BAJAJ AVENGER 220 IF:

  • You just got your license category "A"
  • See point 1, plus you have “leather jackets” and “Cossacks”;
  • See points 1 and 2, plus you want to ride a lot and do little tinkering.

YOU DO NOT NEED BAJAJ AVENGER 220 IF:

  • You are a snob and think that a cruiser smaller than one and a half liters is ridiculous;
  • You still think that a 25-year-old “Japanese” is better than a new “non-Japanese”.

Small and so good

Actually, I haven't introduced the hero yet. Meet the Bajaj Avenger 220, a mini-cruiser with a 19-horsepower, 220cc single-cylinder engine. If you have ever seen a photo of a large Indian city, the question of a modest cubic capacity will disappear by itself. Where else can they go, where can they drive in a dense stream of “their own kind”?

Avenger is a cruiser, although small. With all the typical style elements. Considering the size of the motorcycle itself, the saddle can be said to be luxurious, and its height is also low. This will definitely appeal to small novice drivers: in traffic jams you can rest securely on both legs without fear of dropping the “device.” But I’m not sure that a person taller than 180 cm will be comfortable here

The test week proved that even in a metropolis such an engine is quite sufficient: of course, if we are talking about banal movement around the city, and not a frantic pursuit of adrenaline. Yes, it actually doesn’t go more than 100 km/h – in this regard, overtaking trucks on the sidelines make you a little worried. But in the center you feel absolutely at ease. The small and light Avenger will fit into any available “hole”, even under the control of a novice. Again, it forgives such mistakes as turning the throttle too sharply or “throwing” the clutch, and teaches you to change gears on time. The Bajaj handles very well for motorcycles of this class, and the two-piston front disc brake makes you forget about the rear drum brake - it’s so good.

The speedometer and odometer are, in fact, all the instruments. It is strange that despite the presence of an LCD display, there is no basic clock function. Yes, and instead of the blue manufacturer’s logo, I would prefer to see turn signal indicators - I think it would easily fit

Indicators and warning lamps are located on the tank. The selected gear is not displayed at all – only neutral (letter N)

Of course, there is no point in comparing this motorcycle with “adult” cruisers, which are at least several times (sometimes an order of magnitude) more expensive. Here the plastic is simpler, the chrome is thinner, and you can find fault with the assembly. But as soon as you remember its price ($2300), you forget about the claims.

To be honest, I can’t even find an alternative – if we’re talking specifically about new motorcycles. By the way, in addition to this Street version, there is also a Cruise with spoked wheels, a windshield and a backrest for the rear passenger. You can even buy it in gold color with a brown saddle to stroke your biker ego. Just don't forget your leather jacket!
